I have played this game for 30 minutes, and I already emphasize with the Ethan more than any other video game protagonist ever.

  • You can change. You can.
I dunno how to feel about HR.

The sheer scope and bravado of the game is enough to give it some charm, yet it is flawed. Incredibly so.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
I honestly think it was a pretty lousy game but I appreciate that  it's trying to do new things with the medium.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
    > lousy game

I agree with this. It was a good story and I felt emotionally invested, but it was essentially a highly-advanced choose-your-own-adventure book. I wouldn't want to play it a second time simply because the ending I got was the ending I got after all that investment.

There wasn't a huge deal of actual gameplay, given that Heavy Rain was mostly quick-time events.
  • Are you kidding me? Heavy Rain has some of the best gameplay in a game ever. I love the whole way it's designed and everything.

    you crazy man
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Apart from general walking around, it's cutscenes with variable results depending on how well you do in quick-time events. And simple tasks are over-complicated.
  • You can change. You can.
How far are you into the game?

I personally love that style. I like branching storylines. I like quick-time events. I like every action having a button.

Juan:At the Motel part where you talk to Lauren.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Well, I like autonomy and control. I do genuinely agree with people who think Heavy Rain needs a term other than 'game' to describe it.
  • I don't agree with them.  Then again, I think calling visual novels "games" is okay, so...
  • You can change. You can.
    Lauren Winter?

Oh, son, you're not even getting to the lousy part.

Come back when you finish and notice all the plotholes.
  • STOP TRYING TO WRECK MY ENJOYMENT OF THE GAME GUYS

    GOD PLEASE
  • Also Jayden's first scene takes place on my birthday
  • You can change. You can.
It's not our fault you cam here all "DUDEEEEEEEEE HR IS AWEOME"

    Anyway, Jayden's my favorite character.

    Agent Nomnom Jayden FTW
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
It's what you get for trying to ruin my enjoyment of yanderes. =P

Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    NAWWWWWWWMAN JAYDEN, FBI
  • Man, Jayden's glasses are amazing.

Wish shit like that still existed in real life.
  • That's it.

I don't give a fuck what you say about ploholes, or gameplay, or any other stuff like that.

This is the first time I have ever truly cared about the main characters in a video game.

This is the first time I can't put the game down because I want to see what happens next in the plot.

Holy fuck. This game is fucking perfect

What the hell is with nerds and cynicism?

There's only one perfect game out there, and it ain't Heavy Rain. It's this:

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
A game is more than a story. The whole point of a game is to put the player in control. Heavy Rain, for all its strengths, pretty much fails at this.

The issue you always face with media criticism, Chagen, is that you cannot separate your own emotional investment in something from its objective features and merits. We are not saying that you shouldn't enjoy the game; we're saying that the game sacrificed a lot for its strong points.

Madass: Except, you know, I love the control scheme for this game.

Your argument falls apart due to subjectivity.

  • Vorpy, I'm not even paying attention to your trolling at this point.
  • Your argument falls apart due to subjectivity.

    No it doesn't.

Nobody is saying that you aren't allowed to like it.

People are just saying that from an objective standpoint it really missed the mark in some areas.  That doesn't have to affect your enjoyment of it, necessarily, but you should at least acknowledge it.

Vorpy, didn't you just say in the yandere thread that people were paying too much attention to Chagen?

    Cut the crap.
