The correlation between Population Size and Rules-Dependence

RE-ANIMATOR

Without playing the approval or disapproval up...
... wouldn't you folks agree that the larger a population grows, the stricter the rules become and the more the letter of the law is favoured over the spirit of the law? That a larger, less personal community will be governed more systematically and with less provision for individual quirks than a smaller community?

This is somewhat about TVTropes... but applies generally too.
And please guys, don't lay into me for making a political topic. At least I'm not hijacking someone else's.

  • When you have a small group of say 30 or 40 guys, it allows for everyone to know each other and level of respect being built up between all members so the rules don't need to enforced as much.
  • ^ Yup. Pretty much what I'm getting at.  And pretty much why I hate huge populations. One ceases to be a person and ends up a statistic, and I don't know how anyone could be ok with that.

I wouldn't agree that it is correlated to population size.

I would agree that it is related to the per capita provision of resources.
  • ^ Sounds complicated. Sounds interesting.

Care to elaborate? I'm curious now...
