To be honest, how is this different than roleplaying or cybering, or self-insert lemons? I can't really judge whether or not they're the ronery otakus who marry their bodypillows, or bros who're doing some mental masturbation before returning to the daily grind of their lives.
Which is one of the reasons why I suspect talking about meatspace stuff is discouraged, as not to make one or the other feel uncomfortable on the site.

The most important thing to remember is that all people... especially mundies, but pretty much ALL people.... exaggerate on the Internet. Some exaggerate slightly. Some exaggerate right the way around the back of Pluto to the point where what they're saying bears NO resemblance whatsoever to what they actually mean.

I can read through to what they ACTUALLY mean easily enough... I've spent a lot of time on the Internet.
I spent over a decade in a community that consisted about 50% of furries (the crazy thing was that most of the old-sk00l furries were ... well... quite old). I then spent a few months on the Livejournal Otakin community like a regular Jane Goodall ... and only left when some twats accused me of being one of them (rather than the honest truth that I was hanging around them because they're an endless fountain of lulz) ...
And y'know... even those Otakin... I doubt as much as 80% of them actually took it seriously, and meant it sincerely. Those who did... well, I could tell. Some of them had left planet earth years ago...
The problem with that DLC dudette was that she started to insert her particular brand of lunacy into conversations that didn't relate to that sort of shit. That's the point where you make an oddball hobby into a screwed-up lifestyle.
