I have stories. Like how a FF cosplay scored me a girl three different times.

Final Fantasy still has that quality to it. That has never changed. I just wish that XIII had some towns and proper shops. Buying from  a terminal takes some of the life out of it. And most of the fun of exploring is gone.

  • I don't like every Final Fantasy. VIII and VI were boring, and the only good version of IV gameplay-wise is the DS version, IMO. And V was pretty meh. I had too much grinding. I've never played II, III, XI, and XIV. But, uh, I like the rest.

^^Kinda like the Moogle Shops in KHII

    You're kidding, right?

Isn't FF4DS's gameplay much, much slower than FF4SNES's gameplay?

The DS version of FF games? Pff, they chibified everything. It's puerile.

  • ^How is it any worse than, say, FFVII? In fact, the sprites are pretty chibi-like too.

^^Er, have you played it? It adds in Augments and changes boss patterns to make the game immensely more strategic. I played it with the ATB at the fastest possible, I think, anyways.

They are hardly chibi. They don't have heads which are too big for their bodies, or cuteified facial features. Most of the FFIV DS player characters are super ukeified.

    This matters because...?

    I'm big on aesthetics.
  • Oh. My only gripe with the DS games is that they are hard.

My only gripe about FFIIIDS is the saving. You can only save on the map which makes the final dungeon a bitch. I heard the original FFIII was this way too.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
The only two FF games I've played are IV and VI. In IV, I think I made it more than halfway through before realizing that I didn't give a crap about any of what was going on. In VI, I don't think I even made it three hours in before thinking much the same thing.

Can't find any exact numbers for the cost, but it's estimated to be in the multi-millions.

(I think you wanted the other FF thread at the top of the first page. It's kinda confusing, isn't it?)
  • I still don't see how the DS versions are chibi. I find the sprites much "cuter" than the DS versions. When I think chibi, I think short and round. The DS characters are tall and thin, it seems to me.

Oh, I forgot they redid all the boss patterns.  That makes more sense.

In the original, I remember that the thing I loved most about the battle system was that it was really fast.

...oh, I also had my finger half-glued to the turbo button.

Yeah, I am not much a fan of random battles.

^^^Yeah, this is getting confusing now. Thanks!

Yes, the original had that, too, with the addition that it was hard as hell.

Um...  the character sprites in the original game have heads that take up half of their entire sprite.

Though on the other hand, FFIVDS has a consistent art style.  All of it is chibi.

FFIV SNES had a chibi art style for the character sprites and a definitely non-chibi art style for all the monsters.

Come to think of it, there is one FF game I've liked, though not a main-series game. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was pretty good, if you ignore the whole "it's okay to kill an entire universe to help out a single-digit number of people" thing.
  • The first Final Fantasy Tactics was better than Advance in every single way.

...Well, except for quality of the translation.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Well, I wouldn't know; I haven't played it.
  • Did someone say Final Fantasy XII?
