Looking at works in retrospective

And realizing you don't enjoy them on the same level as you did the first time you experienced them.

Take for example, Star Trek 2009. At first, I was like "OMG, this is really freaking awesome! Kirk and Spock have such great chemistry!" And then a few months later, the idea of the plot being cliche incarnate sunk in, and now I won't be able to recapture the initial excitement on any repeat viewings. Same with Harry Potter. The Elder Wand hokeyness didn't bother me as much initially, but I find it increasingly difficult to forgive the ridiculousness of the plot as time passes.

On the flipside, there are things like Garfield and Friends (as well as the old animated specials) which I actually find funnier nowadays because I actually get what the show was mocking. It makes me feel like I missed out somewhat, but at least it means the show aged well.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
    Then there's the opposite.

The OT of Star Wars is good as time-wasting entertainment, but I've found a lot to appreciate in it that isn't readily apparent and it's made it just that bit better over time.
  • I can still enjoy things even after brushing off the hype I had for it.

Even when they're bad things, because I still realize why I was hyped up for it.
  • They're somethin' else.
I loved the film Ghost World because I agreed with the main character so much about how much full of crap everything is.

Recently, I watched the film again, and though I still like the film, I am now of the opinion that not only is she way out of her element, she needs to fucking adapt or stop whining.
  • You can change. You can.
AKA: You grew up and realized how much her stupid cynicism was wrong. Just as intended.
