Who are your heroes?

edited 2011-07-09 17:23:49 in Wonderful posts
I just thought this would be a fun thread for us to get to know eachother who are your heroes and why? When did they become your heroes? How?

  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
I wouldn't say I have considered anyone a hero to me, I don't like the idea of hero worship.

I do respect a few people for what they've done.

One of the ones I respect most is David Attenborough
  • why? how did it come to that? I mean what do you admire him for? not criticizing just asking.
  • You can change. You can.
David Attenborugh's a great director. Although I don't know him for anything else.

As for me, I have many people I admire and who have traits that I wish I had, however, to become 100% more like them would seem incredibly silly. Above all, you can't be the same as them, but you can learn something from them.

  • Terry Fox was basically like Jesus if Jesus was an amputee with cancer.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
You don't know who David Attenborough is...
Have you ever seen any of the Life on 'x' series?

He is a zoologist/naturalist whose nature documentaries are basically the pinnacle of the genre.
They seem to be a huge if not primary reason for nature documentaries being so popular in the UK, leading to a greater interest in the natural world. Not to mention views and support for human impact on the world.
He is 85 and still working on more documentaries and the like
This is why I respect for him.

Whenever people over here parody nature documentaries they usually imitate his voice, due to how iconic it is.
He also is genuinely nice as I've met him at a book signing.

Oh, I was thinking of Richard Attenborough. Silly me.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
Also just glancing at David Attenboroughs Wikipage, he has a lot of award type of things.

  • Bruce Dickinson is a cooler motherfucker than anyone else could ever hope to be.  Just saying, is all. >.>

Mine are Sarah Coonner and Fabled.
  • I can't think of anyone I'd consider my hero. There are some very impressive people, people I respect, and people I would consider heroes, but I think that's different from the notion of "[possessive pronoun] heroes".

In any case, the total number of these people if not the proportion compared to total population is pretty high, so it'd be futile to try naming them all, and there wouldn't be much left to signify anything about my personality.

I would be very interested in being regarded as a hero to someone else, though.
  • Has friends besides tanks now
There are a lot of people I find to be exemplary, in fiction and reality, for various reasons, but I can't think of anyone who counts as my hero, or my idol; that is, I can't think of anyone who singlehandedly embodies the majority of my ideals, or anyone who has had a significant impact on my views.
  • Glaives are better.
    Batman.

His parents are killed. Does he whine about it? No. He takes out his grief on his costumed underage sex-slave in his weaponry-filled dungeon, the way God intended.
  • $80+ per session
    Christopher Nolan.
  • That's...kind of a combo...kind of...
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Bruce Dickinson: airline pilot, tank driver, Olympic fencer and rock star.

I use guys like Aragorn and Obi-Wan Kenobi as fictional examples of how to be in a trying situation, though.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
    ^Captain Jean-Luc Picard for me.
  • You can change. You can.
The Doctor, I think, would be mine.
  • Lavos.
  • Fred Phelps, king of trolls.

  • Has friends besides tanks now
For my how-to-deal-with-tough-situations guy, I guess I'll use Monkey D. Luffy.
  • Oh, uh, fictional?  Um... Funny thing is, you can describe Bruce without giving his name and people think that such awesomeness can only be fictional, which makes the fact that he's a real guy all the more awesome.  But, uh, fictional... Um...

...Noriko Takaya from Gunbuster.  Proving that you can get through anything, ANYTHING, with the power of HARD WORK AND GUTS!
