MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
I dunno, I've managed to catch a few women by being nice.

In my experience, alpha male bullshit sends girls away. At least, any girl worth hanging around.
  • Spineless and Nice are the same things right?

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Anybody who talks about how 'being nice didn't work' probably wasn't actually being nice.
  • The whole nice guy-alpha male thing is a very bizarre dichotomy to me. I wonder: what conditions of today's zeitgeist led to it?
  • Okay, both people are trying to apply behavior seen in captive wolves to humanity.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
    ^Pretty much.

I like to think the women who were attracted to me weren't attracted to a nice guy or an alpha male, but rather to 'The Malk.'
  • You can change. You can.

Well, that's just like, your opinion, man.
  • You can change. You can.
Meh, you just gave me an opening, bro.
  • Juan is definitely not the nice-guy in the Juan / Malk relationship.
  • You can change. You can.
    Mostly because he isn't there.
  • Thane of rum-guzzling and necromancy

Secretly 97.95% of men want to be dominated and have vagina envy, because submission is so much easier.

  • This one is rather strange in this regard. She  might be considered socially submissive, although it becomes he  preference only in a very specific circumstances. In most others, it is certainly not her wish.

But (theoretically speaking), this one has reasons to suspect that her  preference in sexual relationships would be an opposite. She would prefer to lead.

Anyway, this one met quite a lot of women who are clearly the alphas themselves.
  • I hope this is bullshit.
  • Glaives are better.

I'm the opposite. All I really want is permission to cut loose. Maybe it's beta to need permission in the first place, but I've been conditioned to require some form of positive reinforcement before going straight to crazy town.

  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean
Well, I'm the more submissive type personally.

I honestly have to wonder about people who say things like this. I'm a horny bastard, but I don't think about nor desire sex often enough to completely change my personality for the sake of getting it. I'd rather stay single, if that's the only other option, even if this was true (I don't think it is, personally). And as has been pointed out, there is a wide gulf between nice, as in, pleasant to be around, and "nice" as in, pretends to be friendly in order to get laid. The latter's not just transparent, it's downright pathetic. In general, pretty much ANY pickup tactic works better than that one, as I've seen.

So given the choice between that false niceness and machismo, then yes the latter probably will get you laid more often, if only because the former won't at all.

That's just what I think, though.

    Maybe it's beta to

    beta to

    beta

Describing yourself in terms of greek letters only works if doesn't even work if you're a wolf!
  • Second in the pack. Not bad.
  • I didn't really get an answer to my question: how did the whole nice guy/alpha male thing happen as it exists today? Think about it; when large numbers of people from diverse backgrounds all convene around one bizarre mindset (i.e, so many people self-applying either "nice guy" or "alpha male", with very unified patterns of thought in each), that generally indicates some kind of larger catalyst, like how 50's repression and the Vietnam War led to the hippie movement. So what catalyst(s) led to the current state of things?
  • Methinks advent of the internet, which allowed feminist bloggers, the Seduction Community and bitter foreveraloners to form communities and clash with each other. The ideas were always in place, but the tubes allowed them to emerge to the forefront.

  • After all of this, the only conclusion I'm left with is "Fuck, the last 20 years have been stupid."
  • The stupidity has just become more visible, that's all.
  • I'm not gonna begrudge the system for changing, but really now, ~facepalm~

^^ It's not even just this that I'm talking about when I say that. Everything just came to my mind at once, all the most culturally influential tropes and events of the last 20 years. Emo, scene, 4chan, Columbine, anime, LiveJournal, 9/11, it all came back to me. I've never realized until today how stupid all of it is. I mean, I knew that each of them were stupid in their own specific ways, but I never knew how much of a massive, interconnected symphony of pure, unadulterated stupid the whole zeitgeist encompasses.

And you know what? I'm probably gonna forget all these feelings by the time I wake up tomorrow. I just hope right now that better things are in store for the next 20 years.

    Clean your room little Billy

@ DonZabu: Actually, the last 30 years have been pretty stupid, with the occasional good patch and less stupid elements flickering like so many points of light in the night sky. Truth is, the vast majority of human existence has been stupid. But it's been more stupid than usual in the last decade in particular. Maybe it's due to an actual spike in stupidity rather than a new media induced perception bias.

    Also

    Emo, scene, 4chan, anime, Livejournal

    Columbine, 9/11

As much as I dislike  the soulless, hypercommercial  disembowelment of alternative aesthetics, 'edgy' neckbeard trolls, moe overdose and uncreative bloggery respectively, two of these things are not like the others.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
    Accentuate The Negative indeed.
  • It seems to me you've Lost Your Faith In Humanity(tm).
  • seems a pretty logical conclusion after the last few decades.  the age we knw is either dead or mangled beyond recognition. or maybe it was never how we knew it to begin with?
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Compared to the rest of human history, we're still doing pretty damn good, you know.

^^ You mean the age of widely-accepted racism?
