Check out their True Art pages. The basic thesis statement of those pages is "art can be at bit vague and wanky at times, therefore any attempt for a work to be anything more than simple entertainment is worthless and pretentious. We say this mostly because we're deathly afraid of looking pretentious ourselves".

I like music for more than aesthetic reasons, so that sentiment bugs me.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
The Michael Bay page is one of my favorites.

Something that used to be on the Michael Bay page:

    >He's also said that he doesn't make movies the critics want to see. He openly admits that his movies are meant to be popcorn fun. This, of course, is a Berserk Button for three groups of people: professional critics, amateur critics, and people who extremely value the views of critics. The very idea that a director would intentionally make a movie solely for "entertainment" instead of "art" is seen as pissing right in their Wheaties.

Translation: "I failed high school English and movie critics are a surrogate for my old teacher."

No, I'm not bitter, why do you ask?

You're a high school English teacher?
  • You can change. You can.
Which is why I barely touch the wiki these days.
  • ^^ No, but I might as well be.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
There's a basic logic failure in this criticism of critics. Critics don't judge all films the same. They judge art films on their artistic merit, comedies on how funny they are, and silly action movies on how entertaining they are.

Critics hate Michael Bay because he's not entertaining.
  • Unless they are Armond White.
  • You can change. You can.
Oh, come on, Armond White likes Bay?
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
He said TF2 had 'some of the most artistic camera shots in all of history'.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Yeah, I remember Camera Shot #864 was particularly David Lynch-esque.

Armond White believes that any level of depth in a movie that doesn't meet a certain depth quote is "false depth", and that the movie must be pretending that it has more artistic merit that it actually does.

This is why he hates Pixar movies and Inception and enjoys the most shamelessly mindless films.

    Or he's

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
^^If by that you mean 'I didn't understand what the hell was going on' I agree with you.
  • "He said TF2 had 'some of the most artistic camera shots in all of history'."

Armond White plays TF2? I bet he sticks to Demoman and Spy.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Worse, I bet he disguises himself as a Spy whilst playing Spy.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
    ^^I'll cut you, Myr.

So is Jersey Shore. Popularity is irrelevant when it comes to criticism.

People think Jersey Shore is better than The Real World because it actually has hateable characters and not ones they use theming and scripting to make you hate.

Also, MTV likes to force cultural trends and cash in on newly spawned ones.
