Fuck you too, Capcom.

  • This promises to be nothing but fun in the sun.
  • I guarantee you, they'll find a way to bypass this.
  • Well that kills any interest I had in that game.
  • Has friends besides tanks now
That's awful. How selfish do you have to be to screw over the fans like that?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Honestly, after they decided not to localize AAI2, the odds of my buying from Capcom in the forseeable future were already tiny, but I think they may have dropped to zero.

    Clean your room little Billy
I once half-jokingly speculated that companies might try selling games that erased themselves on completion to combat the used game market, in a TVT thread not too long ago. Not quite the same, but still, spooky.
  • I used to think that my Pokemon Silver game destroyed the save file on purpose a few minutes after I beat Red. >_>
  • What the fuck?

I love picking up old games and restarting them. I did it on Motorstorm Artic Edge a few weeks ago.

    What the hell, Capcom.
  • I hope other publishers don't get in on this...

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
So...do Capcom games come with any of those customer response mail-in things? Because this makes me want to start a campaign of attaching them to bricks with notes of disapproval about this.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
I understand the hatred of the used game market, but punishing the consumer rather than the distributor is the ABSOLUTE wrong way to go about it.

Here's a simple solution. DON'T RELEASE YOUR STUFF TO GAMESTOP.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Indeed. I've never understood why the game industry never just got together and curbstomped Gamestop out of existence.
  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean
    Ha.

[insert long rant about companies being left in the wake of progress here]

    no but really, what?

Malkavian: nuh-uh. I buy almost everything from Gamestop (and similar retailers). When I buy videogames at all that is, which isn't too often.
  • Because Gamestop holds a near monopoly on the game store business.
  • $80+ per session
Gamestop is an 11 billion dollar industry that controls 70% of game sales in the world.
  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean
I love how people get their panties in a knot about Gamestop, but not any of the other monopolies that control gaming, and the entertainment industry on a larger scale.

As far as the evulz list goes, Gamestop's pretty low. Unless they're doing something I don't know about like, trapping the souls of puppies in their game discs.

Here's a simple solution. DON'T RELEASE YOUR STUFF TO GAMESTOP.

Gamestop controls almost a fifth of all US videogame retail in the United States and possibly more in Europe, that'd be a beyond-retarded thing to do.

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Yeah, but if the gaming companies decided not to sell to them and sell to Best Buy instead, what could Gamestop do? I honestly doubt it would hurt their sales that much.

^^^^^That's not a good thing. At this point, with Gamestop's monopoly they should be you last resort.

^^Constantly working to cut out the game producers out of profits, that's why.
  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean
ah....BestBuy gets quite a few games.

Most of them have a huge section devoted to games....
  • $80+ per session
Best Buy tried to buy Gamestop and failed.

Capcom's kind of been shit for the last decade or more.  It's not like them screwing themselves over is really a significant loss.  Just don't buy their games and hope no other company decides to do this.
  • Ehm, surely this violates consumer rights in some way or other?

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
^"I don't like it" isn't considered a consumer rights violation.
  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean
Buddy, as long as the game doesn't leap out of its case and eat you, or blow up your Xbox when you put the disk in, they can do whatever they damn well please to their games.

Now, should it be that way? Probably not, but that's how it is, currently.
  • $80+ per session
This isn't going to stop me from buying capcom games I like.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
What I'm wondering is how this will affect game rental companies.

yea i make potions if ya know what i mean
^^Well sir, you have a right to buy a more or less unplayable game, but I have no idea why you would.

Unless you mean old ones, in which case go for it I guess.

    ^Gone, if it catches on.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Funnily enough is, I don't see how this can catch on outside of the cartridge market since saves aren't held on discs.
  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean
My thinking is they've probably installed some block on the disk to prevent it from writing more than one save.

Which of course, means that some 4chan hacker will probably have the thing bypassed by next week, but, y'know.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
@Vivi:Well, see, for me, the only Capcom game I want to buy in the forseeable future didn't get localized, so...

And with regard to buying stuff from Gamestop, just go to Amazon. They're generally cheaper and you don't have to actually go to them.
