Ecchi vs. Hentai (A very unsubtle debate)

Most of the arguments against Ecchi made by hentai fans are "If I wanted to watch egregious fanservice and animated sexualization onscreen I would have watched a hentai instead".

While most of the arguments against Hentai made by ecchi fans are "The thing ecchi has over hentai is that you can still enjoy fanservice and sexy characters without having to actually watch pornographic imagery."

I suppose that depends on what your priorities are: story, or the other thing.

    a little muffled
IJBM: The idea that "pornography" is synonymous with "explicit sex".

Seikon no Qwaser is porno, period.

It's not porn in the sense that you have to be 18+ to buy it though.
  • a little muffled
That seems like a very strange way to define pornography.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Very softcore. Basically fanservice up to 11 with little onscreen sex.

Perverted anime/manga with lots of tits and panty-shots.

    or gay dry humping.
  • $80+ per session
Did someone say gay dry humping?
  • Conductor: Look up a picture of a vagina. Then, give it the texture of underwear. Bam. Ecchi.

^ This is why I always wondered why people made such a big deal about nudity but didn't seem to care much about skintight shape-revealing clothing.

probably because things that look like boobs but aren't boobs are okay.
  • No they're not!  They're still boobs! D:

    Unless they're small.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
Well, the thing with boobs, as I later learned, was that people apparently make a huge deal about nipples but not boobs themselves.
  • As far as being considered indecent or whatever?  Yeah, that's how it is, for whatever reason.
  • You know, I've never been able to get too upset about that.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Sometimes ecchi is sexier, just for the potential for subtlety and working your own imagination.

    Both are great fun, really.

Since I've never enjoyed explicit sex, I'd rather ecchi.  More plot, less distracting sexuality (relatively speaking).

    [tɕagɛn]
I'm like Glenn. I basically am not turned on by explicit sex. At all. Ecchi is what turns me on.
  • You can change. You can.
Since I've never enjoyed explicit sex, I'd rather ecchi.

Now ecchi is a verb. lovely.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
In its verbal form, wouldn't "ecchi" refer to clothed/semi-naked sexual activity?

    So essentially foreplay.
  • You can change. You can.
Oh, it is a verb? I thought it was just a genre.

Also, as for m opinion, real people porn > Hentai and Ecchi.
  • It's not a verb, but MadassAlex is suggesting a possible meaning if it were.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
I wasn't using it as a verb; I was using it as a noun.  Just an abbreviated version of "I'd rather it be ecchi than hentai".
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Right, but given the structure of the sentence, interpreting it as a verb is valid as well.

I like "ecchi" as a verb.
  • Technically one could write a book about a prostitute with no actual sexual content and it'd still be pornography.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Id rather go naked than wear ecchi.
  • $80+ per session
I do go naked than watch ecchi!
