Same could be said about guns on the US and if you're careful about your shots and use the environment properly (Read, using a silencer in a noisy place) then an assassination can be easily performed.

the disadvantage with knives is that it's relatively hard to A) throw the knife go and pick up the knife C) check for vital signs D) leave. While guns is A) shoot from point blank leave to get rid of the gun and clean prints on th handle, just in case.

not to say that thrown knives hardly cause blood loss, unless they are thrown by  really strong/trained guy.

Which is my point, if you have to kill him from a distance, why trust your arm when you can use a gun, which tend to have way much more kinetic energy on them?

Which is why I said using it in the middle of a noisy environment. Like a club or a parade. Admittedly, it will still be heard, but the group shock plus not being able to properly detect the sound gives you time.

I think crossbows or bows (forgot which one is quieter) is better for assassination IIRC.

The repeating, magazine-fed crossbow isn't that obscure. Less obscure than its German Renaissance counterpart in any case.

The only thing I remember about German crossbows is that they have a pump action version.

Could be Truth In Television, in theory.

As noted, European swordsmanship was and is directly comparable to its Eastern equivalents. An especially good German knight wouldn't be too troubled by a Samurai adversary (unless that Samurai was also especially good).

Fighting dirty is the first rule of swordsmanship anyway.

The best way to kill someone when both of you are armed with swords is deception. Make them think you're going to do something and do the opposite. They'll be left wide open and you've got a free strike at an opening.
