The Green Lantern is actually white, not black

The main reason this bugs me is because the first encounter I ever had with the Green Lantern was Justice League (the one on CN) and he was black on there so I just got accustomed to him not being white.

But when the trailer for the Green Lantern came out and he was white I asked "I thought he was supposed to be black" and another person in the theater went "he's actually white, they just made him black for Justice League" and I went "okay."

It was just like the whole thing where I thought Frieza was a transsexual alien when it turned out that was just the way his voice actor sounded.

    You can change. You can.
Actually, there  is a whole corps. Johnson (I believe he was the black oone) still is in continuity. So, yah, it depends on which issue of Green Lantern Corps are you reading.

So there is two of them? Ah okay.

Two? The word you're looking for is millions.

And that's like...a quarter of the GL corps.
  • I'm a damn twisted person
There's actually four human Green Lanterns*. Three are white guys (they picked the dull one with no personality for the movie) and Jon Stewart the black guy was the one on the Justice League cartoon.

*Well five if you want to get really nerdy, but he doesn't count since his ring is magic, not weird emotional space tech that is effectively magic.
  • For once, I actually knew who made this thread before I clicked on it. It seems just like your brand of "needs to do slightly more research".
  • It's dumb. There's a ton of white superheros. Green Lantern is probably the coolest superhero anyone can remember. Why don't they make the movie with the black Green Lantern?

  • Who says he's not in it?
  • Wait, Frieza isn't a transsexual?
  • I'm a damn twisted person
    Freiza is totally a FAG*.

    *Freaky Alien Genotype.
  • Because Hal Jordan is the "main" Green Lantern, so any GL film will be about him? Hell, the only reason John was in the Justice League cartoon was to diversify the cast.

    Those are fighting words, son.

Hi I'm Hal Jordan. I have lots of willpower and excel at conquering my fears.  I went evil once because of a giant yellow space bug.

    Whole character, right there.

Not gonna lie, you're right about that. Still like him. -shrug-

And besides, I don't see how:

Hi, I'm Guy Gardner. I like fighting a lot, my prime as a Green Lantern is practically gone and I need to keep fighting something else.

    Or

Hi, I'm Klye Rayner. My girlfriend died and was put in a fridge. At first, I was the only GL. Not anymore. Yay

    Are especially different.

Hrm, granted Kyle and Guy being fun depends a lot of their histories and personalities. Not having to cram all that in doesn't work well for an origin story(especially since their origins are tied to being replacement/backup Green Lanterns).
  • Writer, Artist, Obscure.
Kyle is fun because he's jokey and does tons of fun artsy stuff with his constructs. Gardner is likable by some because, let's face it, the dude is a bravado inducing hot blooded macho man. It may not be liked by some but it's more personality than Hal.

I guess it's because I see Hal as a hot shot pilot and I like that kind of character. Snarky, sure of himself, willing to do what's right, discerning, and generally funny.

Kyle doesn't make me laugh that much. And Guy's was only awesome during J.M De Matteis and Keith Giffen run on JL.
