So I recently discovered My Name Is Earl, I'm getting towards the end and I've noticed each season gets really sour either at or towards the end.

In Season 1 Earl looses all his money.

In Season 2 Earl gets sent to Prison.

In Season 3 Earl ends up in a coma and nearly dies.

In Season 4 Joy, Darnell and both of their kids get relocated by the FBI.

WTH man? I mean I know all these things get resolved (I've get to see if the FBI stuff does) but Earl's a good person! Why does he get punished so much!

    That's actually debatable. Whether he's a good person, or whether he's just doing good things.

    ^ At first he just does good things because he thinks Karma will reward him. But by the end, he keeps on doing good things even when the world is against him.

    Like when he gives up on the List because he's sick of being punished (Season 3).

    But then, there is the time where he says that if he had to, he'd give up the List for Randy. So I dunno.
