As much as I wish it was phrased better, I kinda agree with Chagen on this.  Most of the few cases of polyamory I've seen ended with someone inevitably getting ditched as a third wheel.  That, and people are already so spectacularly bad at managing one relationship that attempting multiple just looks like dual wielding chainsaws or something.

I guess it's one of those things that sounds nice on paper, but the number of people who can actually pull it off is rather small.

Well yeah.  I meant that for me it's in my folder of things that I don't think are inherently wrong, but are probably not too bright nonetheless and there's a reason it's not the norm.

That, and it also tends to attract people who have no interest in any commitment, rather than those capable of handling several, so it's like throwing gasoline on a fire.

Efficient allocation of resources?
Well in that case, the ideal is about one male to about twelve females for humans, if I remember the pattern correctly.
I seem to recall that being the optimal pattern to ensure that as many offspring are being made as possible. Just one guy going around fucking all the women so they stay pregnant near as damnit perpetually.
And then the babies get to constantly fight to the death and the mothers eat the dead ones so the strongest can survive to repeat the cycle next time around and resources are recycled.


Then again, if we're going by the Chagen school of efficiency, I win on the grounds that I'm totally single.... and thus all my resources go to MEEEEEE!   ^_^
