Celebration of "manliness"

Be it straight or tongue in cheek.

I don't fucking get it. I didn't get it when One Piece did it, and I don't get it when actual people do it either.

It's pathetic, and I am so sick and tired of this mentality. It's like it just popped up one day and refuses to leave. I can't fucking stand people who act all heartsy and girly and frikkin ditzy, so why do you think acting like gung ho pinheads would be any better?

If you want to act like idiots, fine, be that way, but at least let it open to both genders.

Grargle. Grargle flargle.

  • Interesting sociological theory is that masculinity/femininity is a continuum, and that the healthiest type of person is an androgynous person. Me, I say it takes all sorts. The traditionally manly, the traditionally feminine, and people in between.
  • I am, actually. Thank you for noticing.
  • Use this, AHR:

  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
This is because of the straight male topic on YF isn't it?

    Naaaaaaahhh...

    Don: No. No thank you.

    Neo: Yes. Yes it is.

  • There are things to celebrate about masculinity. Srsly, being able to bench press more than you weigh while rotating a 3D object in your mind is a freaking superpower.

Femininity should be celebrated, too. We can multitask better on average and communicate better on average, for instance.

Both genders should be celebrated for the unique gifts they bring, as should all individuals, masculine, feminine, or in-between, male, female, or other.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
I think this might be one of those times where you need to take a deep breath, take a step back, and not take it so seriously.

Ehhhhhhh. It's genderwank. The day I stop taking genderwank seriously is not going to be a happy day for me.

    It's usually something I enjoy.

Now if only there was a lack of segregation between gender roles, and what they are allowed to celebrate and participate in.

  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
    Neo: Yes. Yes it is.

Oh your just jealous of our fleet of starcruisers. :P

Also quoting, how does it work?

Nope. Just discovering a burning hatred in certain people, culminating in an intense dislike in those who associate with the philosophy and morals that I abhor.
  • Oh no.

Please don't tell me your a feminazi, AHR. I respect you, but if I hear another radical feminist argument, I swear I'm gonna crack.

Feminism--drives men to misogyny faster than anything else.
  • Not a feminazi. Just a hatred of being excluded from something because of my gender.

    Or being forcibly included.

"Now if only there was a lack of segregation between gender roles, and what they are allowed to celebrate and participate in."

Definitely. I'd rather be considered a person than a sex.

Aside, what annoys me more than extreme gender posturing is when it's coming from the opposite sex. Not camp, though. Large Ham camp is gender-neutral.

Go away Chagen, you aren't helping.

Yes, this is coming from the guy that defaulted to a U MAD reaction image.
  • Gelzo: Sorry, but more than a few feminist "arguments" are completely bullshit and are more focused on making women above, rather than creating equality.

Most of feminism is logical and based in fact, but you never hear about the sane ones.
  • Which is why, Chagen, I mentioned I dislike "people who act all heartsy and girly and frikkin ditzy, so why do you think acting like gung ho pinheads would be any better?"
  • Don't make me get out the Final Fantasy X in 5 seconds video.

    > I'd rather be considered a person than a sex.

    THIS.

    SO FUCKING VERY THIS.

    > Oh no.  Please don't tell me your a feminazi, AHR. I respect you,

crack.  Feminism--drives men to misogyny faster than anything else.

Or you can be patient and see if that's the case.

    > Most of feminism is logical and based in fact, but you never hear about the sane ones.

Because, like most other sane people, they're boring.

Also, can someone linked to said thread please?
  • Actually, I find sane feminism arguments intriguing. Mostly because they cause you to see things in different ways. Doctor Who, for example.
  • Someone made this thread: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13058430470A19493600&page=1

So, as a counterpart, some one made this: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13058525400A82299200&page=1

I am aware I am probably over reacting, but it's a straw camel thing.

  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
    Here ya go.

It's mostly just dicking around (tee hee) as you can see.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
    Oh.  Sexuality-based tribal allegiance threads.
  • I love tribalism!
  • You can change. You can.
Actually, there has been some whining (I'll admit I was one of those) about how straight tropers where few and etc.

Personally, I would have preferred it if the thread was just for straight people. But I like to boast and have fun with that. I don't think I'm a better person because I'm male or whatever, I just like being me and I like being boisterous and cheesy and all that shit.

If you don't like that, it's OK, but I don't see why do you have to criticize me if I am not affecting you or attacking you. Nor any of the people behind that thread.

  • Because you never know what you might see.
Meh.  That thread seems harmless to me.  If it were a little more serious then maybe it'd be irritating, but it's not like they're whining about being underrepresented.  Last I checked, they're assigning eachother starships.

    >Both genders should be celebrated for the unique gifts they bring

This kind of talk, on the other hand, annoys me a lot.  Pretty sure I couldn't bench press more than I weigh while mentally rotating a 3D object in my head.  It's not some kind of special superpower that you automatically get by virtue of being an adult male, it's something you have to work for.

Respect to those who can, but it's not a man thing, it's a hard work thing.  Having a male body just helps a lot.

JC: Well, I didn't actually criticize anyone. Just the act.

Second of all, I'm fine with people acting boisterous.

No, really, I love it. It's when they parade it around as something "manly" (even in a joking tone) that riles me up. Sure, the "man up" thread had it for a while, but it was more or less accepted to be general advice, and for general genders. This thread? Not so much. And that's what tipped it from a mild annoyance amongs other mild annoyances, to something to rant about.

Because when you exclude people, I plan on criticizing.

  • Because you never know what you might see.
Then why aren't you complaining about the bisexuals thread, or the gay thread, or the numerous "X only" threads we've had in the past?

Or, hell, just threads relating to specific interests are by nature exclusionary.

"Because when you exclude people, I plan on criticizing."

Then why does this thread specifically bother you so much, and not, like, the Gay tropers, ASSEMBLE thread or the Bisexual tropers, how many of us are there? thread?
