    AD HOMOPHONE ATTACK! :(

I think that hipster thing was what Moogi called us.

^^^^^ Well, we banned Tnu for not improving on his spelling. And IMO, I think Eddie gives out Google bans too lightly, as well.

YO YO YO U CAN'T C ME BOUT TO SPIT SUMTIN' STOOPID!
I think the general consensus on the internet is that Fast Eddie is a hypocrite who's about as banhappy as spoony when it comes to people not sharing his opinions, and that if he doesn't wise up and allow both positive and negative opinions on the site, people are gonna get tired of all the creepy shut-in's on the site who use TV Tropes to "escape from reality" and soon all that will be on the site is Fast Eddie and his group of potential rapists.

Note that I didn't directly insult anyone in that post.  I just gave my opinion on how Fast Eddie handles banning people and what the vocal minority of TV Tropes consists of.

^ A good number of the users on here are banned from TVTropes, as a matter of fact (me not included). I'd advise that you don't take this site as representative of its parent, particularly since it was created to have a rather different tone (i.e., more aggressive, cranky, and frivolous, to oversimplify matters) than the main forums.

^^ Well no, as Tvtropes is well established. The tropers complaining about lack of negativity are never going to organised or high enough in number to provide an alternative.

^^ I'd still like to be unbanned from Tvtropes I mean it sucks I can't even look at the fucking website.  What's Eddies deal. "Oh you said mean things about that guy who wants to fuck his sister NOW YOU CAN'T LOOK AT MY WEBSITE EVER AGAIN!"
  • edited 2011-05-13 19:27:00
Yes, even I have a problem with Google bans. They're very vindictive, and there is no reason anyone cannot merely view the site.
  • edited 2011-05-13 19:28:51
Can't even look at the website? That sounds like a Google-bounce. Those are usually handed out due to ban-evasion, not for a first offence, in my experience.

What exctly led to you being banned?

^^ Sometimes, though, they're the only way to keep a serial ban-evader out. I believe that was why the admins came up with them in the first place.

YO YO YO U CAN'T C ME BOUT TO SPIT SUMTIN' STOOPID!
^^ What's Eddie's excuse?  He does realize that a majority of the internet see him in a negative light, right?  I mean I'm sure he's a nice enough guy and I get that he doesn't want people bullied on his forum but there's a point where you just gotta go "No, that's stupid, no wonder you get made fun of and have to retreat to TV tropes."

^ I was like "why'd you ban Mike?  I mean it's a legitimate point, making TV Tropes your "Happy Place" instead of learning to behave acceptable in public, if he does his 'biglipped alligator moments' in public like he claims to, No wonder he would have to retreat to the internet because people probably mock him when he does it."

Then my post got thumped by bobby, and then Eddie banned me, I thought it was bobby but I was wrong, so I apologize for making the title of the post "bobby can't handle criticism"
  • edited 2011-05-13 19:31:26
Because you never know what you might see.
^^ Allegedly, he was banned due to being a previously banned troper, though it sounds like it was just a case of shared IP addresses, in which case that's unfortunate.

Even I think total site bans are pretty harsh except for spam bots or whatever, but I'm afraid it's Eddie's prerogative; there's nothing I can do about that.

^ See, the problem is that directing insults at other users is one of the fundamental "don't"s on TV Tropes.  Coming over from another site and making trouble is another.  I appreciate that you might not be aware of the rules, which was why I referred you to them.
  • If that's what happened, you can argue for an appeal. Although if you do, don't mention you're from BS.

YO YO YO U CAN'T C ME BOUT TO SPIT SUMTIN' STOOPID!
^^You can voice your opinion, all of you can, if he doesn't want to lose people on his site he'd do something about it.
^Seriously I never even went to the forums up until recently.  I've never been banned, and if I shared the same IP wouldn't I be banned anyways?  Also I'm pretty sure he'd KNOW, I'm from BS :\
  • They're still trying to find alternatives ever since they discovered it was possible for some internet providers to give users different IP addresses for each session.

    >Then my post got thumped by bobby, and then Eddie banned me, I thought it was bobby but I was wrong, so I apologize for making the title of the post "bobby can't handle criticism"

No worries, I can see why you would have thought that.

    >You can voice your opinion, all of you can, if he doesn't want to lose people on his site he'd do something about it.

Heh.  You say that, but just try asking for a quote button over there.

    >If that's what happened, you can argue for an appeal. Although if you do, don't mention you're from BS.

I think Eddie knows already, though you could point out that you'd been on TV Tropes for a while before you got banned and he might be a bit more understanding.

    >if I shared the same IP wouldn't I be banned anyways

Forum bans are by username, not IP.

YO YO YO U CAN'T C ME BOUT TO SPIT SUMTIN' STOOPID!
^ Possibly, Also the "insults" I used were responding to the "insults" of Moogi, but I guess since it was "insults" about a site Eddie doesn't like it's all okay then. :\

Keep in mind I used to add Berserk examples of tropes on trope pages. I'm a HUUUUUGE berserk fan.

I started questioning TV tropes when I went to school and met a kid who I dunno some of you might know him, he's the Troper who wrote the book "Devils in Hell's Kitchen"?
  • Hold on, so what did the sister-fucking have to do with anything?
  • YO YO YO U CAN'T C ME BOUT TO SPIT SUMTIN' STOOPID!
^Just an example, someone could talk about how they like fucking their sister and then someone else could go "Dude that's fucking disgusting what's wrong with you?" and odds are Eddie would ban the person who said that sister fucking was disgusting.
  • edited 2011-05-13 19:40:54
Because you never know what you might see.
If he saw that exchange, Eddie would probably ban the sister fucker as well, actually.  Or more likely, ban the sister fucker and just thump the other guy, unless the guy claimed to be from another site.

Never heard of Devils in Hell's Kitchen, sorry.
  • I'm guessing negativity is more offensive than someone's fetish. His priority, first and foremost, is to remove attacks on the site and other users.
  • YO YO YO U CAN'T C ME BOUT TO SPIT SUMTIN' STOOPID!
^And by doing that he makes the sister fucker think that not only is it okay, but it's encouraged on TV tropes, so he continues to be creepy and talking about fucking his sister, good job Eddie you just made your site a hugbox for people trying to escape the real world instead of learning to deal with it.

I'm betting Eddie's gonna be responsible for a huge increase of shut-ins in the near future, because he bans people for being brutally honest.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
It really depends on the fetish.  Sister fucking... yeah, no, I don't think that would be tolerated.  I wouldn't tolerate that, though I'd probably assume they were most likely a troll rather than somebody stupid enough to brag about something like that on the Internet.

But yeah, brutal honesty often isn't tolerated, mainly because we have a civility rule.  The general principle is that if you can say it, you can say it politely.
  • edited 2011-05-13 19:46:08
Generally, confessing to serious crimes like incest on the forum is, in fact, a good way to get thumped/banned/generally treated unkindly by the mods. Yes, you'd likely get your post thumped too (though almost certainly not a ban), but only because you decided to dogpile the guy and escalate the situation rather than simply hitting the holler button and calling in modly wrath.

(FYI, not a mod, just a long-time user speaking from experience).
  • YO YO YO U CAN'T C ME BOUT TO SPIT SUMTIN' STOOPID!
^This Troper is still making videos so I'm gonna have to disagree with you.
  • Pff, as if we aren't the forum that praises Captain Rapekillsuiciderape for his logical consistency.

Because you never know what you might see.
    ^^^ Yeah, that.

The problem is that, in this instance, another site was involved, which raises kind of a big alarm bell.  Y'know, we were wondering whether we should be expecting a raid or something.

^^ This Troper is currently making videos about shit teenagers said two years ago in a confessions thread on what was then a much smaller TV Tropes forum, amongst friends.

^ Tongpu hasn't confessed to any IRL crimes.  If he did, he'd be out of there in an instant.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
To wit: we experienced a mini-raid after an anti-TVTropes thread on Something Awful became too heated.

YO YO YO U CAN'T C ME BOUT TO SPIT SUMTIN' STOOPID!
^^Contrary to popular belief, Busystreet is only 3 people most of the time, with others sending articles to us to publish.  There won't be a raid, because that actually WOULD be trolling.

^Yeah I read that thread, seemed to me like they were genuinely trying to help but when Eddie and the mod who's a furry didn't want to take down the troper tales or move it to the forum or whatever, they figured that there was no hope for the site.
  • Mostly, This Troper plucks the really freaky shit like that from Troper Tales, though, no? On wiki pages like that, all you have to do is delete the entry yourself on grounds of creepiness. Putting a 'what the fuck is wrong with you' bullet point below just exacerbates the situation.

However, the site is huge, and we can only edit out what we can see. As a result, creepy stuff like that can go unnoticed for years, particularly on less-visited parts of the wiki like the aforementioned Tales. That's why the best thing to do if you find something like that is to chop it out with a quick, descriptive edit reason (i.e., "Confession to a crime. Also, really disturbing.") so it doesn't fester for others to stumble across it later.
