"America is the only (important) country in the world!"
This attitude is kinda aggravating.
My dad is permanently convinced that all human ingenuity and invention will end if America goes down. In his opinion, if America loses its status as a first-world country, humanity will come to a grinding halt.
Because Europe and Asia don't exist, amirite? (though he'd just say "SOCIALEESSSSMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!" in response to that.

Do note that this man actually believes that Russia and China are still communist.
Scotland was awesome, though. England was great. Ireland was really, really nice. Switzerland was cool. Germany was radical. Sweden was epic (although the trolls of Trollhattan got on my nerves) and Denmark was fantastic.
But out of all of them, America would make the biggest thud if it went down. Your dad is correct in theory, Chagen.
Because humanity practically didn't exist before the USA came to be, huh?
which is only a matter of time, it would surely be a big thing. There is no doubt that it will have a huge impact one the world. But really, the humanity won't be destroyed because of it. Hell, it survived worse...
^ Or what the ninja said.
And he also believes that it doesn't worship the Abrahamic God. And that it has no connection to Christianity in the slightest.
As you can probably guess, my dad has never ever actually talked with a Muslim.
I suppose he considers the military of every single other country bad enough to lose to an anti-intellectual backwards barbarous religious force then.
He thinks that Europe is an entire continent of pussies who will fall (because they aren't patriotic and have socialism).
The real risk in Europe, IMHO, is not military defeat of the EU by a middle east alliance, but internal revolution.
But really, the humanity won't be destroyed because of it. Hell, it survived worse
There's evidence that humans survived a supervolcano eruption in about 70 - 80,000 BC that wiped out all but less than 10,000 people IIRC.
However, if the US collapsed, I am worried that elements very unfriendly to the U.S. way of life will take over. On the plus side, people might stop hating americans for being evil overlords and moderate conservatives for being heartless bastards, and start hating us for being like the Irish immigrants in the 1800's potato famine.
Part of the reason he thinks it'll stop is because he's convinced that Radical Islam will take over the world, and he honestly believes that Islam is an anti-intelluectual backwards barbarous religion.
I agree with Chagen's dad that there are SOME elements within islam that are more anti - intellectual than anything in the Christian world today. But it is maybe 10% of all muslims, not most of them.
* The Taliban teaches females should not be allowed to go outside the home for education. They also blew up one of the most valuable anchient sculptures in the world because it was not of muslim origin.
* There are warnings on a mosque in the middle east telling Christians they will be prosecuted for mentioning the trinity or the divinity of Christ there.
(because they aren't patriotic and have socialism). And that
liberals/democrats are trying to destroy America and weaken it.
AC of Europe:
10 + 5 size bonus - 6 lack of patriotism penalty - 6 socialism penalty - 3 universal healthcare penalty = 2 AC
Well, that definitely sucks.
Also, Lady Gaga is a troll.
The problem with America, see, is that its so isolated and basically unaffected by the outside world. As Americans, we have no concept of what true terror or suffering is--we've simply never seen it, or experienced it in any form, save for isolated cases, and that makes it impossible for all but a special few to sympathize or grasp a mature perspective of much of anything.
Just look at our attitude towards foreign countries, for example: So Japan bombs Pearl Harbor and kills roughly 2500 people. That's tragic. Tragic enough, apparently, to justify dropping nuclear bombs on civilian population centers and killing several times that amount, during a time when the war was basically won and Japan was probably on the verge of surrender anyway. Nobody in America thought that was disproportionate. Many people today still think Japan needs to be "punished" for Pearl Harbor and consider the Earthquakes "retribution."
And of course, the French refuse to support our war so we start calling them "cowards." And some guys from a desert knock down two buildings so that justifies us flying our armies to places that might not have had anything to do with it, in order to "end terrorism." Let's be honest: to a rational culture, a proportionate response is to shoot someone who themselves is trying to shoot you. But to an American, a "proportionate" is to shoot a person, that person's entire family, and burn their house down if their dog shits in your yard. This is why I can't sympathize with Americans, or feel the least bit of pity whenever an American has a bad turn. Frankly, Americans deserve whatever shit they get.
Yes, I would like to leave the country. Unfortunately, I'm not quite rich enough to afford the privilege. Here's hoping I win a contest or something.
We normal citizens call those people "morons".
An invasion of Japan would cost far more lives, and Japanese cultural values meant that surrender was not an option.
Also, *cough*RAPE OF NANKING AND KOREAN OCCUPATION*cough*. Given the atrocities the Japanese comitted against other asians ( which was quite often worse than anything the nazi's did), they deserved those bombs.
