When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
There's going to be some form of retribution promised by them, doubtless.

Shit, I didn't know there was a second page.
  • So I heard the 9/11 truthers are saying he was already dead and has been for years.

    God, I hate those guys.

I'm happy he's gone but I would not be happy if we desecrated his corpse.

I hated the SOB too but we'd not only be giving a finger to terrorist like we want, we'd also be giving the finger to all the muslims around the world.

    I don't think thats a good thing.

Thorn: You just implied that all muslims agree with Osama.

Or that they have the biggest persecution complex ever.
  • No. I implied that telling their religious custom of burial to fuck off would upset them because we just told their religion to fuck off.
  • If they can't see that Osama was an insane murderer and terrorist, and that is why we didn't follow Muslim burial rituals, then they aren't worth our time.

Well I'm sorry you feel that way but this is a delicate situation. Alot of people think this is a religious war when it isnt, and blatantly desecrating a corpse and telling the muslim religion their practice is stupid because we want what even I consider petty is not helping.

Also all we did was dump his remains into the ocean. Its not like we dressed him up with spices and herbs and preserved every organ in a jar and used embalming fluid to make his body be preserved and built a damn pyramid for him.
  • Quit being a whiny bitch and man up.
Hey, smart guy; that's not how it works. Remember the riots and death threats directed at that cartoonist? All that was because somebody decided to draw their prophet; neglecting their burial rites are almost as bad.
  • Almost? I imagine "desecrating a corpse" is a bit higher on the "Piss Off O Meter" than drawing someone.

I know Muslims who were like "Yeah its bad but people are getting way too upset over it"
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^No, actually, drawing Muhammed is one of the most basic "don't do this" things in Islam.
  • I guess it isn't smart for me to consider how I would feel. Thats true. Sorry.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Well,l I'm just saying not to underestimate that particular act on the offensiveness meter. I'm pretty sure desecrating corpses is also considered pretty damn bad.
  • Right, I know.

Point still stands. They did the right move doing the burial. Better to let a bunch of conspiracy losers squirm than possibly piss off an entire religion (even more)
  • I'd have to agree with an earlier statement i'd preferr we dealt with it in a civil case through trial. Dealing with it through killing him doesn't make us any better.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^I think he was killed in a combat situation.

    Has friends besides tanks now
^ That's what they've been saying. I think they also said he used his fourteen-year-old daughter as a human shield during the firefight. Or at least, that's what mom said, since she's been keeping up with it more than I have.
  • I don't trust anything the US Government says as a rule.
  • Oh please. They were planning this in their sleep, thats how ready they were. The guy fought back and was killed. Thats what happens, you never fight a battle to capture. These were trained navy SEALs, not some low paid merc goons.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^I wasn't basing it on anything I'd heard from the government, I was just basing it on how it would reasonably happen.
  • This is shaping up to be a real good metameme.

  • As a petty and vindictive person, I have to take extra steps not to appear petty and vindictive.
The people sentenced to death after the WWII war crimes tribunal were given proper burial, too. We do the same for criminals, no matter how bad, when they're shot or (In third-world countries like Texas) sentenced to death. There's something to be said for the basic human decency of not throwing somebody's corpse in a ditch because he was your enemy.

    *reads KYM page*

...I...cannot believe this became a metameme.
  • You can change. You can.
not that hard. I'm pretty sure everyone had jokes coming up for the day that Osama died. He's just...one of those individuals that attracts that kind of thing.

  • IJBM that since we now know Bin Laden was unarmed (but still putting up a resistance) people are now blaming America and going "HOW DARE YOU KILL AN UNARMED CIVILIAN!?"

I am face palming so hard.

    INUH,

No, actually, drawing Muhammed is one of the most basic "don't do this" things in Islam.

Actually, I think it is a bit more complicated than that. The Qur'an itself does not actually say not to draw Muhammad, however, many Sunni Muslims are against visual depictions of all prophets, especially those of Muhammad. Apparently that stance is part of an effort to stop idolatry. Shi'a Muslims are a bit more divided on that issue (I hear that you can buy postcards that have pictures of Muhammad and Ali on them in Iran), but I think the key thing is that the depiction is respectful. The Danish cartoons probably did not fit most Muslim's definitions of a respective depiction so even Muslims who were fine with depictions of Muhammad would likely find them offensive. I think Wikipedia has some good background information on this.

Sorry, I guess I went off on a bit of a tangent there. I think that everyone deserves whatever burial is the custom. I see no reason to enact revenge or further punishment someone after he or she is already dead.

As for the subject of this thread, I believe that the enemy here is an ideology rather than a specific person. If the death of a certain person (such as Bin Laden) may help reduce the problem of terrorism, then I think it can be considered a good thing from the perspective of national security. Still, there is something about having celebrations and parties because of someone's death that makes me feel  a little uneasy.
