Well, here's the thing:

I want something that is actually emulatable (i.e. roms of reasonable size), and is understandable--either has an English translation or is simple enough that my lack of knowledge of moon runes will not significantly hinder my experience.

For what it's worth, the Valis series is quite So Okay It's Average.  It's an okay platformer with no real distinctively bad or good features other than Nintendo Hard and Fanservice.  And one horrible translation.  Then they had to turn it into some stupid hentai game...

Not quite a cheapo fanservice game, but I just wanted to mention that unfortunately the Stellvia GBA game has not been translated.

A while ago, the Haruhi Suzumiya page was called Suzumiya Haruhi.

That's confusing for a different reason though.  Mostly that if a site is inconsistent about name orders, then upon reading the name of someone you aren't already familiar with, you'll have no idea which name is their given name and which is their surname.  Otherwise it's at least obvious which series it is, regardless of which order you write the name in and which order the reader is familiar with.

Haruhi is her given name though.

Fast Eddie himself did the changing once the crowner had been tallied up, even as he said that the whole thing seemed pointless to him. It was kind of surreal.

Surprising though it might seem, not every culture in the world uses the same naming conventions used in mainstream American culture.

Sorry if that was overboard.  I was just a mite irritated by Mousa's apparent refusal to even attempt to understand a relatively simple aspect of an unfamiliar culture.

I understand it and have been okay with it just fine or I would've been overtly frustrated with One Piece many years ago. In fact back when it was being dubbed I was one of the first in line to say they should keep the traditional naming conventions. I don't care how each culture does their own thing, it was just bugging me that someone was confused because of it despite the simplicity.

Anyway, as for "crazy word salad titles," what about "Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai" (in English, that would be "We Still Don't Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day")?  Of course, because people aren't completely insane, it's usually just called AnoHana, but... yeah.

Does anybody call it "When the Higurashi Cry"?

Don't they just call it "When They Cry" or "When the Cicadas Cry" (well, usually "Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni," but I mean when they use an English name for it)?

And so I guess Umineko is "When the Seagulls Cry"

Because for some reason the Japanese call seagulls "sea cats."

Well the group that first introduced it to me called it "When the Higurashi Cry", I called it Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, and all of the dub-only fans called it When they Cry: Higurashi.

I guess I like Higurashi more than Cicadas because of Inu Yasha.

Um... you do know anime DVDs almost always have an option to watch it with Japanese audio, right?
...and that the Japanese version doesn't have English subtitles anyway...

But that's too easy! Like any true anime fan, things need to be difficult and stupid because the quality of my entertainment is superior and needs to be micromanaged into perfection to suit my trivial interests!
