I try to avoid experencing Hype Aversion...

...and most of the time, I at minimum have a passing interest/curiosity in whatever's currently popular.

But goddamnit, the more I hear about how great Cowboy Bebop is, the more I don't want to see it.

  • You should at least try one episode, eh?
  • Yeah, probably.

Not sure why, but I could never get into it.
  • Cowboy Bebop is somewhere on my list of "shows to watch once I run out of shows on my hard drive and don't feel like downloading more so I'll just borrow my friends' DVDs and watch those."
  • I like turtles.
What about that new My Little Pony series, huh?

I keep seeing a good twenty-five percent of the Internet population sport Friendship is Magic avatars, and I figure there has to be a reason, but... the more I see the avatars...

Why do I have the feeling that hype backlash is intrinsically tied to it's popular, now it sucks?

Not necessarily. The Phantom Menace is one of the biggest examples of Hype Backlash, and that was immediate-acting backlash.
  • If you're susceptible to hype backlash, you should probably be careful about watching My Little Pony. As good as it is for a kids' show, it's still a kids' show, and contains a fair bit of cheesiness and plots you've already seen. It might be the best western animation targeted at small girls that has ever been made, but that's really not saying a whole lot.

If you do watch it, just enjoy it for what it is and don't take it too seriously.

    Drawn Together experienced Mexican Backlash.
  • Fun fact: The voice actor for Princess Clara voices Twilight Sparkle.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
I know that already. Also, Princess Clara and Toot Braunstein are both voiced by Tara Strong, who kind of voices everything nowawadays.
  • But you never had any to begin with.
...There were people who called The Phantom Menace a good film?
  • Well yeah.  Lots of people.

    Then it got released.

Now, yes. Back then... not so much.
  • The Phantom Menace had the best lightsaber fights out of the prequel trilogy.

    Well duh.

And I personally find Attack of the Clones to be worse.

^^ I dunno - their choreography is good and all, but they don't quite carry the same intensity that the ones in the OT had.

^ Out of all three prequels, I actually think Phantom Menace is the best. It at least has the most personality; it doesn't seem quite as sterile as the later two films. And no matter how annoying Jar-Jar is, he's still more memorable than, say, Dexter Jettster.

Also, I watched Friendship Is Magic, and it was okay. A good show, but it doesn't quite transcend the boundaries of a kid's show the way shows like Hey Arnold or Recess did.

    La vie en rose
I probably like the Darth Maul fight the best out of the prequel trilogy's fight scenes, but Attack of the Clones had more good fights and was probably a better action movie overall. I was sorely disappointed by Revenge of the Sith.
  • Play Earthbound.

I personally dislike Attack of the Clones mostly for the romantic plot tumor that seems to bog everything down. And while I think Revenge of the Sith is the best of the prequel trilogy, since it was better overall than the other two movies, it had moments of pure idiocy unrivaled by the rest of the series. Seriously, she's lost the will to live? I suppose she could give less than two shits about her newborn babies.

^ Actually, play all of the Mother trilogy. It's one of the few roleplaying series I've sincerely loved.

Since none of the prequels are all that amazing in terms of writing, I tend to lean toward Revenge of the Sith because of the cool fight scenes.

Also, EarthBound is pretty good.  I didn't experience much backlash at all with it.  It's not perfect, but it's pretty obscure for how good it is.

I didn't give a - - - - about the old films because they were ugly and the acting was boring.

The prequels were the only ones I enjoyed.

    ...

    ...
  • The acting isn't boring in the prequels too?

^^ Oh, and they didn't do any badass jumping on the old ones, and Yoda was totally fake looking, and Darth Vader wasn't intimidating at all.

    ^ Nope.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
^ Oh wait you aren't Bob.

So yeah, the prequels were okay CGI wise, but I liked DV in the old ones.

....Why would you think I'm Bob? I've had this avatar way longer!

...And why are you tailoring your statements for her?
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Because that would have made her feel bad.

But at least I can do this.
