Why, Turtle? Why must you suck so bad?
"A political and economic theory of that advocates
that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be
owned or regulated by the community as a whole."
So maybe not in the strictest by-the-book definition, but I'd say we've seen a lot of moves by the government, and not just under Obama, but under pretty much every President in the past hundred years or so, toward heavy government intervention in the economy. In other words, he's following the spirit of socialism, if not the letter.
^x5 Breaking out the Ad Hominem? I guess I'm done here, then.
^^^ Yes, that picture was extremely witty and eloquently refuted my arguments in a very meaningful sense.
He did.
Have you seen his birth certificate?
No, not the one that's a photoshop of some random Australian dude's birth certificate made to look like it's from Kenya.
The one from Hawaii.
> I doubt Obama is a Muslim. I doubt he stands for anything in particular, in fact.
Good that we agree on that.
> If you honestly don't see the socialization going on in Europe and even in America, then you either don't know what socialism is (understandable, given how complacent people have grown regarding the governments' intervention in their countries' economies), or are a socialist yourself, or want it to happen.
> implying that capitalist countries do not have government intervention in their economies
> implying that socialism is somehow a bad thing
> implying that any particular country is somehow moving toward socialism
> And of course Islam is going to take over Europe in the next several decades, if things don't change. Not by invasion or other such forms of hostility, but by attrition. Muslims in Europe are having a lot more children than everyone else.
By that logic, the United States will soon be populated with Mormons and Hispanics, while the one-child policy will kill off the Chinese.
> I don't see how anyone can deny that the US' government was founded on Christian ethics. Who it was founded by is not relevant. The principles upon which it was founded are.
I specifically remember Tommy Jefferson being annoyed at Christianity.
I also specifically remember Tommy Jefferson being one of our "founding fathers".
> "Gay marriage" is an oxymoron. Homosexuals can't marry because marriage is a union between one (1) man and one (1) woman.
Good to see we agree on this. Let's call all such partnerships, homosexual or heterosexual, "civil unions" instead, then.
> A secular government wouldn't last very long, since it wouldn't be able to morally justify its laws.
Explain how a government that isn't able to morally justify its laws will not last very long.

Y halo thar, conservative icon and reducing-the-size-of-government symbol Ronald Reagan.
I am fine with arguments.
However they should be directed toward the content. NOT the person. Keep that in mind.
But it's more of a "wildly off the walls in various directions" sort of bias.
* 1950s: 90%
* 1970s, before Reagan: 50%
* 1990s, after Reagan: 39%
* 2008, after Bush tax cut: 36%
George Washington, 1797 letter to John Adams
"Although guided by our excellent Constitution in the discharge of official duties, and actuated, through the whole course of my public life, solely by a wish to promote the best interests of our country; yet, without the beneficial interposition of the Supreme Ruler of the Universe, we could not have reached the distinguished situation which we have attained with such unprecedented rapidity. To HIM, therefore, should we bow with gratitude and reverence, and endeavor to merit a continuance of HIS special favors".
Benjamin Franklin, Constitutional Convention of 1787
"God governs in the affairs of man. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel"
Alexander Hamilton, 1787
"For my own part, I sincerely esteem it [the Constitution] a system which without the finger of God, never could have been suggested and agreed upon by such a diversity of interests.""
And yes, you'll notice that I didn't quote Thomas Jefferson or Thomas Paine. :-)
Damnit, ninja'd
