"Liberal bias in the media!"

Yeah, yeah, we know, Conservatives.

My dad spent the last few minutes soapboxing about how the media is biased towards the left, and how all newspapers push the agenda's of the left, and how that's bad.

This is from a man who gets all his TV news from Fox News.

To be fair, there is liberal bias in the media, like The New York Times. The difference between that and, say, Fox News is that The New York Times is full of good journalism.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
Also, the PBS News Hour and NPR News are actually the most unbiased, IIRC.
  • My dad is strange in general.

This man believes that Obama is a Muslim and wasn't born in the US (as if that somehow invalidates his ability to be a president). He also thinks Obama is trying to set up a secular government (because that's bad, somehow) and ban bible ownership. And that Obama is a communist and hates America is trying to destroy this glorious Christian nation despite that the founding fathers were atheists and deists, and that the Democratic party is trying to undermine our traditional values (because Gay marriage is bad, somehow)

And he also believes that Europe is completely Socialist, and that Radical Islam will take over and destroy all of Europe in 50 years. By the way, he thinks that Islam doesn't worship the Abrahamic god, and that is has no connection to Christianity and Judaism at all,

This man has told me that the democrats might turn America into an Islamic nation (How?!) and that they will kill me for being Christian.

He directly told me that if that happens, I must martyr myself for the Lord.

Tl;DR: My dad be fucking crazy.
  • ^According to the constitution only someone born in the U.S. can run for president.
  • I know, but the fact that he still believes it is kind of ridiculous.

And he keeps saying Obama is a Muslim like it's a bad thing.

^^ Or someone born to an American parent.

^ Sounds like he's completely drunk on the kool-aid, which has been dulling his Fridge Logic senses.

...Chagen, is your dad some sort of secret project to make a real life parody?
  • edited 2011-04-21 19:33:58

Come to think, he's starting to sound like this parody abusive dad character I came up with. When the other kids make fun of his son for not joining the football team, and going "BAWK-ba-bawk-bawk!", the dad's right there with them.

  • No, my dad just grew up in the 60's and 70's.

He used to actually be a kinda lazy druggie--he loved ecstasy and pot, maybe acid and LSD. He then turned into....this afterwards. He's around 52-54 now.

My dad is old, I know.

^I've heard a saying that no one's as strong in their beliefs as a convert.

I've also heard that drugs can permanently alter the mind.  One of Charlie Sheen's old girlfriends said that's what she thought happened to him.

  • I like turtles.
I read through the thread but all I really saw was

    "BAW FOX NEWS
    BAW CONSERVATIVES"

-That said, you would think if Obama had evidence of being born in the US, he would just freaking present it already.  But every time the issue is brought up people just shout back "don't be ridiculous you're just a conspiracy theorist who doesn't know anything."   So... um... prove them wrong once and for all instead of giving them more fuel.

-I doubt Obama is a Muslim.  I doubt he stands for anything in particular, in fact.

-If you honestly don't see the socialization going on in Europe and even in America, then you either don't know what socialism is (understandable, given how complacent people have grown regarding the governments' intervention in their countries' economies), or are a socialist yourself, or want it to happen.

-And of course Islam is going to take over Europe in the next several decades, if things don't change.  Not by invasion or other such forms of hostility, but by attrition.  Muslims in Europe are having a lot more children than everyone else.

-I don't see how anyone can deny that the US' government was founded on Christian ethics.  Who it was founded by is not relevant.  The principles upon which it was founded are.

-"Gay marriage" is an oxymoron.  Homosexuals can't marry because marriage is a union between one (1) man and one (1) woman.

-A secular government wouldn't last very long, since it wouldn't be able to morally justify its laws.

    the fuck

    am I reading
  • I am beginning to suspect O'Reilly got the birther issue right.  Obama was born in Hawaii, but his people want to encourage the birthers by not revealing the full evidence because the birthers allow them to marginalize conservatives.

Um, he has.  Multiple times.  He has posted images of his birth certificate to the Internet.  And it convinced the Supreme Court.  (Also, that requirement is the stupidest part of the Constitution as it stands.  If Obama were disqualified for that, it would represent)

«-If you honestly don't see the socialization going on in Europe and even in America, then you either don't know what socialism is (understandable, given how complacent people have grown regarding the governments' intervention in their countries' economies), or are a socialist yourself, or want it to happen.»
The fact that you're calling someone who can't even reverse the Bush tax cuts a socialist suggests that you are the one who doesn't know what socialism is.

«-And of course Islam is going to take over Europe in the next several decades, if things don't change.  Not by invasion or other such forms of hostility, but by attrition.  Muslims in Europe are having a lot more children than everyone else.»
I'm tempted to go into an economic discussion here but it isn't worth it.

«-I don't see how anyone can deny that the US' government was founded on Christian ethics.  Who it was founded by is not relevant.  The principles upon which it was founded are
The principles the US government were founded on are those of the Enligtenment.

«-"Gay marriage" is an oxymoron.  Homosexuals can't marry because marriage is a union between one (1) man and one (1) woman.»
    Tell that to Vermont.

«-A secular government wouldn't last very long, since it wouldn't be able to morally justify its laws.»
I can't think of a single government that collapsed due to inability to «morally justify» its laws.

    Nazis.
  • Nazi Germany collapsed due to losing a war, not anything related to the morality of its laws.
  • Ponicalica: Egypt and Greece both collapsed because of rampant deviant sexuality. This is a historical fact.

  • Chagen, is your dad one of those people who leaves Fox News on all day, even if they aren't watching it?
  • edited 2011-04-21 20:06:31
I could've sworn Greece collapsed because Alexander The Great died and the resulting civil wars made it easier for the Romans to take over.
  • I like turtles.
"The fact that you're calling someone who can't even reverse the Bush tax cuts a socialist suggests that you are the one who doesn't know what socialism is."

What does his ability to reverse tax cuts have to do with the principles he holds to?

    Tell that to Vermont.

Believe me, were I in any position to do so, I would.  Repeatedly.

I can't think of a single government that collapsed due to inability to «morally justify» its laws.

    The Soviet Union?

    The Empire.
  • I like turtles.
No!  It's not true!  It's impossible!
  • «What does his ability to reverse tax cuts have to do with the principles he holds to?»
Maybe, but there's still the fact that Obama has not attempted to move the means of production to the people, which is what socialism is.

    «The Soviet Union?»
Collapsed because the first multiparty elections were won mostly by ethnic nationalists who refused to pay taxes to Moscow.
  • a little muffled
    The Soviet Union?
    Um. No.
