Unpopular Opinions Being Nuked

edited 2011-04-19 04:27:12 in General
WTH, I LOVED the comic thread, it was so interesting. Yeah a lot of bitching occurred but with people stating their unpopular opinions it led to a lot of in depth discussion trying to crack into those opinions.

Fuck you Fast Eddie...just fuck you.

Before I clicked on it, I already guessed that it would be a "FE is an asshole" thread.

    How predictable.

In the "random thoughts" thread, I said that Myr will probably be pleased. It appears that I was right.

The reason provided for deleting them is bizarre, BUT STILL.
  • ^^Does that even count as a guess?
  • I must admit that now is the point that I think Fast Eddie is being oversensitive. You might have disliked them or thought them unnecessary (I did), but there was some decent discussion going on in some of them.
  • You mean they killed all of them? Son of a bitch, the General Opinions thread was my biggest thread.

Which book has a world where everyone is forced to be happy, and any unhappiness leads to the person being eliminated?

I swear there was such a book

^^ Probably a few books. But I'm thinking now of the Twilight Zone Episode: "It's a Good Life". Yes, I've compared it to FastEddie before. :-)

EDIT: And, apparently, that episode's based on a short story of the same name.

    ^^^ The Giver?

^^^^ There was a Doctor Who episode like that, but what you're thinking of is The Giver.

Actually, the idea of shallow, artificial happiness seems like a common theme in sci-fi. Maybe enough to be a trope.

    Which was the reason?

Also, some tabletop game I don't know about has the line "Happyness is mandatory."

Of course, that information would be above your clearance.

The Giver? I've read the Giver. From what I remember, the people "released" were the elderly and invalid, along with the persistent troublemakers. I think happiness was medicated into everyone else.

Well, medication, plus somehow conferring all unpleasant thoughts and historical memories into a single host individual known as the Receiver. :-)

To quote myself: "IJBM II ruined TV Tropes criticism for me."

This thread, in it's idiocy, is a good demonstration why.

^^^^^^^ Somebody needs to propose that trope and see how Eddie reacts :D
