New Spongebob

edited 2013-04-07 09:37:23 in Media

It's not as good as it used to be, but it's not the unimaginable atrocity people say it is.

Fairly Odd Parents, now there's a waking corpse.

There is love everywhere, I already know

I think they have some merit though. It began with Spongebob actually being able to say things that like... made sense and Squidward actually managed to have fun with him sometimes. Now... not so much.

@FairlyOddParents: Did it die before or after Poof was born and Jorgen started making frequent appearances?

Anyways, while I guess I wouldn't call Spongebob an atrocity, I can say that I enjoy it much less because of it's current story devices ie extreme randomness (which have seemingly been recreated in most of Nick's Live-Action shows that aren't Power Rangers). And to be honest Patrick always sucked and the new episodes almost always have him in them.

  • Fairly Odd Parents, now there's a waking corpse.

    That still exists?

A Mind You Do NOT Want To Read

There was a rather recent live-action film starring Drake Bell as Timmy. That was pretty much the point where I knew I would never be able to enjoy any new contribution to the franchise.

  • Definitely not gay.

Yeah, Spongebob used to be less of a dumbass and Squidward genuinely did enjoy his company sometimes, even if he'd never admit it. Now Spongebob's a complete moron and Squidward is everything from an innocent victim to a massive prick.

  • Squidward is a victim. Every other episode is just Squidward torture porn.

    Definitely not gay.

You don't remember the episode where he basically shat all over Spongebob's Christmas for fun?

Honestly, I've never found Fairly OddParents to be all that good, at least not that I can remember. The post-Poof episodes felt rather... directionless, though, so they're beyond "don't appeal to me" and more like "uh, what are they going for?"

Although I don't think I've watched any of it since... possibly January or earlier.

    ^ Which one was that?

  • ^^You don't remember every other episode that features him? Cos he's always getting physically and mentally tortured without ever having done anything.
  • Ridi, Pagliaccio, sul tuo amore infranto!

I hate new Spongebob, mostly for how Squidward is treated.

Fairly Odd Parents is definitely way past dead. Also, the 9th season just started at Timmy got a Fairy Dog! Yaaaaaay! -_-

The one merit that I will give the live action movie is that it was uncannily like an episode of the show.

  • No rainbow star
    ^ A fairy dog?

...Is it possible for a show to jump the shark twice?
  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean

This is why I want to slap people whenever they say "[some well-regarded Cartoon Network original from the late 90s to early 2000s] needs to come back!"

Because no it doesn't. Especially not Ed Edd N' Eddy, which I see that said for the most and probably had the most sensical ending it possibly could've.

  • It doesn't need to come back.

    It needs re-runs.
  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean

It was reruning for awhile, but that was before we lost our cable, so that's a good year and a half ago now so idk if they still do rerun it.

It's on Netflix if you have that.

  • Ridi, Pagliaccio, sul tuo amore infranto!
Ed Edd n Eddy had a perfect ending.

    Belief

Ed Edd n Eddy had a perfect ending.

and I don't even like endings that much.

I'll also commend it for actually ending, somethings just overstay their welcome by a mile.
