    Except it doesn't. As I spent half a page talking about. Because that relies upon a professor wanting to analyze Pokemon, and sending a kid in to collect data on Pokemon they catch only to have them send in a bunch of rumours about the Pokemon they totally just battled. Which is even stupider than just taking it at face value.

    At any rate, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon seems to take the entries at face value. Hell, one of the early missions in the 2nd games is finding a kid kidnapped by a Drowzee.

    I pretty much agree with Nova on all fronts. It is more reasonable to take the Pokedex at face value, than to think scientists would refer to children.

    Maybe it's just reasonable to assume that the GameFreak dudes, while experts on coding (and even that's real shaky), aren't so big on physics and shit and any errors can be safely called their fault.
