Granted, I'll admit that getting rid of the creepy stuff like Troper Tales was a good idea, but too often we see many of the harmless frivolities that make the wiki such a fun site go as well. So much for not being a "stuffy encyclopedic wiki."
I know there's a rule against importing drama, but if I bring this up on the TVT forums the admins/mods will simply say "you're wrong" and end the argument there.

Honestly, is it really that big of a deal? I can't see colored text being useful for anything besides the occasional joke.
I like jokes. Remember the page for House of Leaves, or the Self-Demonstrating intro for "All Your Colors Combined?"
Humor in articles is what made the site such a great place, and little by little FE is killing it.

On the other hand, you really can't be a member of that site any more and not either A) just sort of put up with Eddie's periodic temper tantrums or
be a yes-man 25/8.
I mean, I'm looking at Yack Fest right now, place seems to have basically turned into reddit without the up/downvote system.
I'm not even going to bother looking at OTC.

Eddie's attitude on the whole thing though reeks of, I'm lazy, and don't want to fix issues anymore.
He really should hand the site over to someone else.
It is, at its core, a fundamentally great concept for a community, "identifying the threads that tie stories together" is a pretty simple mission statement and the general framework is alright, but it's since become tied up in bureaucratic bullshit from having to please GoogleAds, a significant portion of the userbase's own incompetence (I'm not innocent there), and mostly just the fact that Eddie plainly does not want to do it anymore.
There was this huge movement to cut down on "creepiness" on the site, but I go there now and that is literally all I see is things that I find incredibly creepy. I'm not going to cite specific posts because that's rude, but it just....people there are either pit-dirt mockups of nihilists, or they are so happy it seems forced. That's my opinion.
The wiki itself, IMO, isn't suffering as much, but it's still been hit by the stupid "nothing that could be construed as porn gets a work page" thing, plus the movement to keep opinions out of articles altogether (I was fine with the main/YMMV split, less so when YMMV itself started becoming another "we don't want opinions here" thing, and now they're doing it with Headscratchers too, last time I checked). I also find it BS they can't have articles on anything that dumb Purity Council doesn't approve but there can be pages on The Turner Diaries. Cuz that's somehow less offensive.
I get that some of it is ad related, but it's still frustrating.
I think it's an issue with size, too. I've come to think (to paraphrase Ethan Forsythe) that as soon as a community starts developing into a sort of hivemind, it's a lost cause. Don't get me wrong, Tropers fight over everything, but they'll still call themselves Tropers, and most will defend the site (the ones that don't have long since left or been banned) even as its crumbling apart. The only exceptions tended to be people that were rather annoying to be around. It's not dissimilar to reddit, to bring that up again.
Sorry for the rant, this just still bugs me (TITLE DROP, LOLOLOL) even almost a year after I was kicked out.
Is it just me, or was the whole effort of trying to uncreepify things itself a bit creepy?

Don't get me wrong, some stuff on there was pretty uh...yeah. Out there. And you have to really try to squick me out, but most of the stuff that got derided as creepy was....I don't know, people just sort of throwing around the word 'creepy' for no reason.

In any case, I think there were bad intentions all around, basically.
TVTropes honestly had it pretty bad with the hivemind thing.
There was the hivemind, and then there was the annoying contingency of people who considered themselves "smart users", who were also a hivemind, but in denial about it.
It was like having two colonies of bees try to sting each other constantly, and roughly as fun.
I'm not going to look on TVT just for this, but why was colored text removed?

I still on the wiki portion pretty often. I haven't noticed a drop-off a quality, or a real change really, besides the tvtropes for porns being removed. (with the exception of fate/stay night).
Of course they seem inconsistent, since they leave things like Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou which is basically porn.

I no longer invest as much time to build new pages. The site drama kinda discouraged me from further developing major projects (such as my idea of making a whole music theory section).
I do make minor edits though. Same with Wikipedia.
I'm proud to say that I'm neither, I just haven't tried to confront Eddie about it.

And another thing: I may have problems with the administration, but if you're leaving over fucking colored text...
It seems more like a last straw case.
This is almost as bad as how the parser suddenly started quietly deleting the word "titular" because it looked unprofessional, but sentences that look grammatically borked because you blindly deleted a word from it without regard to context look less unprofessional.
Please, give us some credit here. Just make sure there's only one queen between us, use some perforated newspaper to leak pheromones across for a day or so, and we're happy.
It's actually become significantly less awful in the past six months, or at least a lot more polite.
Mostly by virtue of dissenting voices being driven off and most everyone else getting irritatingly passive-aggressive to toe lines. Then again, I'm really not in a position to complain about the latter.
