well, there's always being some of the Avengers or something, so that while everyone gets spider powers, you could get stuff like miss marvel's powers while being anothe spiderperson

It would mean every playable character is the same from start to finish.
Well, every character would have a some repeated powers from a pool (The spider ones) but like I said, you could build a superhero character on top of the spider-powers build in order to create variety.
No more than, say, multiplayer Zelda would if you restricted the number of items you could have, and so on.
^Still won't stop min maxing if any item is slightly more useful than anything else.
Looking at, again, Zelda, where every item actually has a use, I'd say that there isn't.
And calling that min-maxing is kind of ridiculous.
Besides MMOs are social games. Make it so it is in every player's best interest to group up with people who have varied skill sets.
