I swear to god, putting jazz next to any metal song gets you the funniest shit

Why do you impose such trials upon me.
So, getting my piece workshopped wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. It's interesting seeing which criticisms have merit (especially when I didn't even notice them--apparently the narrator came off as a douchebag, in his dealings with his mother, and I really didn't intend for that), and which don't (I didn't get a sense for how old this character was until--oh, wait, you told us when you introduced him), and who's just being a bitch to me (After I finished I found myself wondering, so what? Good job on your memoir. ). It's really tough to see what's wrong with your work until something like that happens, and I'm actually sort of resentful towards myself, now, for taking so long to get into writing, because I missed lots of opportunities.
I'm sorry to hear about the lecturer and the class, fourteenwings.
....seriously, the class just like, went poof there because of the uncooperativeness of the students and the professor's going "fuck this"?
IJBM: When one of my parents is trying to convince me of something, and they succeed, then continue arguing their point for several minutes.
^^ That makes more sense.
Fourteenwings: ...that's bizarre.
Same. Having to click twice always felt a bit inconvenient, actually.
It's not so much hoarding on my part as it is idly curious just how long I can neglect it.
I like seeing numbers go up.
It's like forum Exp.
So what is it when you check your profile and your number disappear?
Dying in a roguelike.
Getting your Dark Souls save file wiped.
Or levelling up~

What this entails: drunk proles errywhere, a few days of having nothing but hutspot(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hutspot) for dinner, students fleeing the city en masse and whining about not being able to bike through said masses of proles, and a few venues where they actually have good bands(or so bad they're good) if you have the knowledge of a native.
It was announced they'd be wiped. If it was announced they'd be wiped every single time you check your profile, I missed that, and that's very annoying.
It was.
And it is. There's a link to change your avatar without wiping them in the Useful Threads thread if you need it.
I didn't need to change my avatar. Well, I did, but that was acceptable.
But I had to go into my profile to dig up an old thread I made, and that wiped a bunch of notifications
Bluh. Now I'm too disheartened to do anything. I would color in this swag-ass Hello Kitty coloring book I got from anime club yesterday, to take my mind off of things, but I don't have my own colored pencils/crayons, and I'm not in the mood to ask my roommate if I can borrow his.
Finished Headhunters.
That was really awesome and you should all watch it.
Reading Temeraire now.
I'll put a proper review of it in the Bookclub later, but: Historical fiction in the Napoleonic Wars, with dragons. This book is great.
That does sound pretty awesome.
It really started dragging after the 4th book for me.
Combined with prose that fits with the setting, decent characters, an exploration of how people would actually view this, and a solid plot, I really like this book. Not as much as others I've read, but it's a very solid book.
^ I've only got the first one.
possibly the best combination of words I've read today.
So I just started watching the new NBC show Revolution and after finishing the first episode, I have to say that while I like the premise and I plan to follow it until at least halfway through the season I won't say it's very good.
The lead protagonist is boring and predictable, right down to her relationships with the entire cast. An interesting-if-kind of dumb premise ("What if Physics went insane for some reason and everything stopped working?") can't save her and most of the main cast. You can just look at the characters and guess their stereotypes (Well, with Maggie you have to wait till she opens her mouth so you can hear she's British). The only interesting characters are Danny (Charlie's asthmatic younger brother whose been kidnapped twice now) and Grace (The odd lady living in a Southern-styled mansion who helps him).
To elaborate; Charlie's dad is the awesomest dad ever and of course dies within the first episode. He leaves his weird flash drive which he left until the last minute to create for some stupid reason to Aaron, who is chubby and wears glasses and therefore is a rich nerd of somesort who complains about all physical activity (He used to work for Google, which I'm sure will be important later). Maggie is british and female, therefore deadly and manipulative as all European women are on TV. Nate is an archer around Charlie's age who they meet outside their village, so of course he's both her love interest and evil because conflict. Uncle Miles, who Charlie's father tells her to find, is a tavern owner in Chicago who has his mandatory "Stay away from me kid! I don't need you messing with my life">"Hey, we're family but I've still got to pretend to be hardheaded since that's the way my character is written."
Charlie herself shows signs of developing early on, but suddenly transforms into Heroic Protagonist as soon as her father is dead. She doesn't have any compelling arguement for Miles, insisting on "We're family!" as the reason why he should help her. This makes it obvious she has no personal involvement in what's unfolding around her. Why are they looking for Miles? Aaron probably knows, but he isn't the protagonist.
Another problem is that the characters are just walking from plot point to plot point. While I get that cramming things into a thirteen episode series can be hard if it's not the standard format, it's annoying to see the cast get from wherever they were (Implied to be somewhere in the South due to the closeness of Grace's house to wherever Danny was) to Chicago in less than half-an-episode and not see the team even grow closer together in the slightest (Charlie hates Maggie for loving her dad because she's not her mom and everybody is merely indifferent to Aaron), a couple of episodes between would have been nice for them to develop a relationship of any kind (especially with Nate, which would have made his betrayal more heartbreaking and not "Oh, he's evil? Who knew!").
The show has also already kind of ruined it's premise, while a show about physics ruining the world is awesome, one where there was some human behind it makes me feel stupid for bothering with it. I'm just supposed to believe that there was a group of people whose life's goal was to destroy all power sources from Batteries to Solar to Nuclear? And this can all be undone (though within a very small radius) by a flash drive.
Then we come to the "Militia", there is only one and it's run by Munroe. I can't believe this, North America is huge! There should be at least more than three. The cities like Chicago (which has transformed into a fishing port) also don't have their own form of security despite Militia bases being in the wild. The militia just come and go within their borders as they please for some reason.
Despite this, I still think there's a chance base premise being salvaged and I really liked Danny and Grace (and I think would like Aaron if he actually was a character). It's certainly an interesting show too, though the fight scenes tend to be boring and gimmicky (Especially that one involving Miles).
