  • You can change. You can.

    ^ But Magic hasn't yet had a Norse-themed set. Except maybe Ice Age/Coldsnap, but that's really more of a non-cultural-specific cold-themed set.

Still! We both know Hitler would totally love Phyrexia's genocidal ways. Or the Lorwyn elves' nazism

  • I'm a damn twisted person

So is it just me, or are elves always fascists, rednecks, flesh eating thugs or just plain smug jackasses these days? Are we on a total inverse of Tolkein in regards to elves or what?

  • You could actually just mention it so we have some idea what you are talking about.

    Just saying.

It's probably not something any of you have heard of, but here goes:

It's an independently-produced work called Felarya. The reason I'm so reluctant to mention it is that it caters rather heavily to a very specific fetish, mainly macrophilia/vorearephilia.

As much as it seeks to appeal to those, though, it's actually one of the most creative and elaborately constructed universes I've ever seen in a work of fiction. Due to it being largely a collaborative effort, the world is very thoroughly detailed, with many different cultures, locations, flora, and fauna developed by the community, often incorporated into the canon by the series' creator.

One of the reasons I find it so fascinating is that many of the characters have a largely human appearance and mannerism, but are predatory in nature and view smaller humanoids (often humans themselves) as prey. For the most part, these characters are born an raised in a feral environment that trains them to see anything they can safely eat as a source of food.

Much of the drama in the series comes from the interaction between human characters and those that would try to eat them. Many characters are fully sapient, but don't actually understand how smaller sapient beings could be anything more than food.

Tolkien's elves were good guys, but still pretty smug.

  • "you duck spawn, refined creature, you try to be cynical, yokel, but all that comes out of it is that you're a dunce!!!!! you duck plug!"

So for some time I've been appreciating Paolini's writing. Among all those Nazi elves (where are the commie dwarves, eh?!), his work is endearingly oldschool, as if it was still no later than early Nineties.

  • But you never had any to begin with.

Most elves in MtG are pretty friendly. The Lorwyn elves are the only ones that are explicitly into extermination of all other races.

  • You can change. You can.

yeah, the MtG elves are mostly into massive and speedy reproduction.

  • a little muffled

@Saigyouji: Also Nissa. Then again she hung out on Lorwyn for a while.

  • Maybe I should just make a thread about elves.

  • You can change. You can.

Am I the only one who thought this would be about The Witcher?
