Celebration of "manliness"

24

Comments

  • Because this was a specific deviation. If someone made a "lets see how many guys we have" thread, then someone made a "lets see how many girls we have" I'd be fine with that.

But it wasn't that. The spinoff added a new trait entirely. It was clearly meant to be the straight alternative to the bisexual thread, and for some reason, it was given gender as well.

Erock says it himself "I just wanted to make the inevitable countertopic to the bisexual one go smoothly."

And that is where I got mad. This is the countertopic to the bisexuality thread. And it was given a specific gender.

    I think you're overthinking this.
  • Maybe. Still pisses me off.

  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Because it's excluding females. It's pretty obvious.

Well, this thread seems to be close enough to an IJBM i've wanted to make for a while, so I'll try to hijack it.

IJBM: The whole big deal about "manliness" and testosterone poisoning.

Is there really a point to eating sandwiches containing live sharks between wrought iron buns?
  • Because you never know what you might see.
    Yes, they're highly nutritious.

Don't you know you need a healthy dose of iron?
  • Yes. It kills you faster.

    You can change. You can.

JC: Well, I didn't actually criticize anyone. Just the act.

The act which me and the people in that thread are performing.

It's when they parade it around as something "manly" (even in a joking tone) that riles me up.

Not my fault girls don't like talking about space ships and how they'd pilot one or whatever (Furiko Maru excluded. :P)

Because when you exclude people, I plan on criticizing.

Well, there were two threads and a general feeling of straightness being a minority and sometimes I just like a thread where I don't have to see whining about men asked to be "manly" = bad and whatever. I know it's silly (And I lost many points there, but I prefer to be honest than right)

IJBM: The whole big deal about "manliness" and testosterone poisoning.

I find it fun in moderation.

Also, I see was I ninja'd. You might as well disregard this post.

Yes, provided you survive, you meet your protein and iron requirements for the next 14 years!

JC: But it's not a manly thing. Space ships aren't manly. And see this post: http://itjustbugsme.com/forums/discussion/comment/59445#Comment_59445

    on the whole straightness thing.

  • "Space ships aren't manly"

    what is this bullshit

    explain yourself
  • They are pieces of metal crafted together to make a vehicle which can travel into outerspace. They cannot reproduce, nor do they have any type of sexual organ, or anything that would compliment sexual hormones.

  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
It's going off the old joke that straight males are the minority Tv Tropes, that's it.

    You can change. You can.
I think she means that they don't belong to males in particular. And she's right. Again, I did say in that thread in particular that I didn't like the fact that girls weren't allowed, but if girls were allowed, I wouldn't be able to shitpost.

And I like shitposting, so...pros and cons, I guess.

Damn it, I hate being ninja'd.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
Spaceships mightn't be particularly manly, but space war fleets certainly are.

(Where "manly" is a social construct related but not inherently tied to biological sex and please don't hurt me, I like feminism, really.)

Neo: Well, that's an inaccurate joke then, ain't it? Males outnumber females on tv tropes.
  • Hey, you don't have to be male to be manly. I'd guess most men aren't...

Mine's loaded enough to virus bomb entire star clusters worth of filthy heretics, I'd take that over a penis any day.

    Keyword is straight.
  • Glaives are better.
Manliness is preferable to femininity. I'm completely serious about this. Traits associated with testosterone - confidence, ambition, perseverance, self-awareness - are attractive in either gender. And although I dislike stupid displays of machismo, I find traditional femininity disgusting.

    You can change. You can.
@AHR: Well, I wouldn't be able to shitpost with the current theme. And I'd have to take it seriously if girls were allowed. Because my brain wouldn't allow me otherwise.

    ^Blah, away with you.

    also, keyword is jokes

as in not meant to be taken seriously

Juan: You realize that's sexist, right? Double Standard?

Forzare: It's only a joke if the standards aren't actually enforced. Here, they are. A thread was made as a "counterpart" but was specifically given criteria that excluded said counterpart.

  • You can change. You can.
Juan: You realize that's sexist, right? Double Standard?

Yeah, but I don't feel comfortable with most female tropers. Much less straight female tropers. -shrug-

I don't see how I'm being particularly discriminative, if you don't like such a thread existing, it's fine, I already pointed out its flaws. Doesn't mean I won't have fun with it.
  • "Feminism--drives men to misogyny faster than anything else."

I guess my car ran out of gas too early then.
  • Glaives are better.
Hey, it didn't say that feminism was a car. It's more like a purple, spiky, vulva-shaped rocketship that pokes you in the eye if you stare at it for too long.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
Feminism doesn't drive men to misogyny unless the men in question are already sexist.
  • You can change. You can.
    What Khwarizmi said.

    (sort of)

"purple, spiky, vulva-shaped rocketship that pokes you in the eye if you stare at it for too long."

    Better than a penisplane.
  • Glaives are better.
That's probably true. That doesn't mean, though, that radical feminism isn't annoying as fuck.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
Radical feminism can be pretty aggressive and pushy, it's true.

But then, radical anything has that problem and can get irritating fast.
