Having to restrict myself while writing....

.....To gain readers. There's this story I want to write. It's from the viewpoint of a male character, and has both homosexual and heterosexual.....uh.....activities. Not hardcore sex, but certainly some homo/heteroerotic things. Most of my audience is, through the sheer power of statistics, straight males. I'm not going to have many readers if I keep the gay stuff in. But I wanna have them in anyway....

  • Since you're not trying to sell it (I assume), it shouldn't really matter whether it gets a lot of readers or not.  If you think you want to have something in the story, do it.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    Bugger.
  • You can change. You can.
    First: Listen to DYRE.

Second: I have Fight Club, one of the most beloved movies (Especially by men. Most of them straight, mind you) of the last decade, which is filled with...like...so much homoerotism it's amazing, so...argument...invalid, etc.

Besides, just because it doesn't pander to your orientation doesn't mean you can't like it, especially if it's aesthetically pleasing.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Like 80s action movies. 80s actions movies are the gayest movies ever, yet their major audience is straight men.
  • Adding homosexual activites will attract female readers anyway.

Even if a lot of them will be insane fanfic writers.
  • Fight Club is already amazing but it would have been so much better if it had actual man on man action in it.
  • You can change. You can.
No, it wouldn't. Fight Club is all about subtlety.

    ...

    >_>

    <_<

    Yes, subtlety.
  • Are we talking grabbing-each-other's-junk homoeroticism, Chagen, or deepthroating-someone-with-the-barrel-of-a-pistol homoeroticism?
  • DOn't you know homosexuality is sick and wrong Chagen? ~grabs his ass~
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
actual man on man action in it.
It starts off with Tyler's "gun" in the narrator's mouth. What more do you want?
  • They're somethin' else.
    -raeps the next poster-

    -compassionately-
  • $80+ per session
Edward Norton went to my highschool.

Obviously, he wants Tyler to shoot.

Spoiler: Which he did. Sort of
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    Shakespeare went to mine.
  • You can change. You can.
Bruce Wayne went to mine and you don't see me bragging.
  • $80+ per session
Pff, Bruce Wayne didn't go to school :p

    And Shakespeare wasn't real.
  • You can change. You can.
Well, to be fair is not like i went to school either. Mind you, the League of Shadows demanded us to learn algebra before graduating.

I CAN KILL A MAN WITH A FEATHER! WHY DO YOU NEED ME TO LEARN FACTORIZATION!?
  • Don: More like really passionate kissing and some junk-grabbing.

And the main character being a closeted bi guy.
  • They're somethin' else.
    how generic.
  • It's what I like~

Nothing quite like it in yaoi fiction. The main character will be admantly straight...till his gay friend manages to open him a little and then--I probably should go before I Fangirlboy Squee.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    How does he open him?
    Anally?
  • Actually, he basically just gets really aggressive and horny on the main character....
  • Hah. Imagine writing a story that you DO want to get published, and knowing that a great deal of it is porn. Of course, I had no problem cutting it down. I didn't see it as censorship, I saw it as me making a better story, without resorting to basic sex tactics.

Here's the thing with sex-- it's kind of boring to read about. I mean, not porn, sex. Metaphors, analogies, stuff like that, that's where sex is exciting. Two people having sex are just having sex. Two people fighting each other and acting like it's sex is symbolism.

    But I ramble and digress.
  • The metaphors and analogies are fun because it's hilarious how bad they can get.
  • There's no actual sex in the story.

....Okay, no penetrative sex. Maybe oral.
  • As a petty and vindictive person, I have to take extra steps not to appear petty and vindictive.
Ignoring the fact that you'd have to torture me before I would read something by Chagen (For purposes other than parody, of course!), I'm a straight male and I'm pretty indifferent to homosexual sex scenes in movies...
