  • Eh.  Hype Backlash is as good a reason as any to not read it.

It's not like I have a shortage of entertainment I'd like or anything.  I can always read/watch other stuff instead.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Hype Backlash is never a good reason not to read something. it just means you're letting other people spoil your opinion of a work.
  • Exactly.  But it's convenient, because it lowers the number of works I still need to get around to reading/watching/etc.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Fair enough. I guess Tropers tend to have long "to read/watch/whatever" lists.
  • I considered reading Homestuck just to see what the hype is all about, but I sort of lost interest, partly because I don't even know what it's supposed to be about.

    I know I do!

^The end of the world, it seems.
  • I think it has to do with something about dicks and magic.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^Sort of. Sort of not. The fact that humanity's almost extinct very early on is not nearly as important, plot-wise, as you'd think.

    ^Not that I've noticed.
  • "I considered reading Homestuck just to see what the hype is all about, but I sort of lost interest, partly because I don't even know what it's supposed to be about."

Neither do we, really. The best way I've found to sum it up is "a webcomic which is sometimes a cartoon or a video game and also a series of albums".

I wonder if, like Touhou, there are people who don't read Homestuck but still listen to the music or otherwise attend to the ancillary material.
  • a little muffled
@INUH: It's just...eh, I dunno. I don't tend to go for narrative webcomics anyway, especially if there's a long binge involved. There's a good chance I'd never have gotten to it anyway, but it really did seem really cool to me.

Usually I don't let hype backlash get to me. (When I realized I was starting to get it for Haruhi Suzumiya, for example, I resolved to watch it as soon as possible.) This is the only case where it really has to this extent.
  • I'LL STAY MAI HAUNDS...WITH YAU BLAHT
@Central: It's about a group of kids who attempt to win an extremely complex video game that begins with the destruction of the earth.

    Pony Sleuth
You eventually find out what the story is about, but it's a HUUUGE spoiler.

    ^That's not technically right.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
One way to help get yourself into it is to watch one of the later-but-nonspoilery flash pages.

    Steambot Chronicles

This doesn't include games that I've already tried out, but haven't played fully, such as Lunar and Fire Emblem.

It also is missing Mega Man Legends, now that I notice it...
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Of those, I'd go ahead and play Knytt. You can probably get through it in under two hours.
  • Hm... you'd think I'd have actually played at least one game from such a big list...

Well, I've played Shining Force, I guess.  I never got very far though.

And I've watched someone play Nostalgia for a little bit.

    Other than that, though, nothing.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
Well, they're kinda specific.  They tend to be freeware, retro, JRPG, indie, and/or platformer.

Also, I seem to be missing Radiata Stories and some other very recent JRPG series whose name I forget now that's like Radiant something or Princess something or whatever.

And these are for series I don't know yet.  This doesn't include, say, Castlevania Order or Metroid Other M.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Radiata Stories is awesome, but I have yet to get around to finishing it.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
For some reason I keep on thinking "Radiant Silvergun" but that's a shmup.

    Maybe "Revolutionary" something?

Oh, and that list is missing Aquaria too.

I was about to post my to-watch list, but I felt that was a bit narcissistic (and it's not as long as Glenn's To-Play list).
  • i cant wait for you to be a useless piece of shit all day and play all these games
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
My lists are just in my head, so I can't really post them.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
My to-watch list is kinda a jumble of various animé series I have yet to finish and animé series I have yet to start.

My to-read list for webcomics is as follows:
    dinosaur comics
    Gunnerkrigg Court
    Megatokyo
    DM of the Rings
    (Darths and Droids)
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Of those, go for Gunnerkrigg first. It's really awesome.
  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean
I have no real opinion on Touhou.

Homestuck could just stop existing and I would be happy.
  • I have this perverse curiosity about AU's to-watch list now...
  • edited 2011-02-07 20:19:38
    It has:

    Alice in Wonderland
    The Emperor's New Groove (re-watch)
    The Lion King (re-watch)
    Twelve Angry Men (re-watch)
    To Kill a Mockingbird (re-watch)
    Barefoot in the Park (re-watch)

    So yes, I'm boring.

    Alice in Wonderland
    2010? 1951? Some non-Disney version?

    Oh, and I have a to-read list:
    • The original Alice books (I know, I know, I use the avatars but haven't read the books)
    • Orwell (because of a conversation in PYRT about the word "Orwellian")
    • Pynchon (because Imipolex G said his humor is similar to that of the Trash Heap)

(Normally this list would be integrated with my humorous "things to do eventually" list, but that's just a bit too shitposty than I'm aiming for right now.)
  • I've seen the 1951 one (duh), but I'm not really interested in the 2010 one.

I also have a to-watch list, but it's just in my head, and it's very short:
    • Doctor Who (new series, season 5 onward)
    • Kodomo No Jikan (yeah, yeah, laugh it up)
    • Toy Story 3
Oh, and Glee is probably on that list somewhere, 'cause I like musicals, but it's not a priority.

...And I guess the list isn't just in my head anymore.
