  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I like Homestuck, but am sort of lukewarm toward Touhou.
  • I sort of like Touhou, but I have no opinion whatsoever of Homestuck, other than that apparently everyone likes it.
  • Homestuck is awesome. The only thing I care about from Touhou is the music.
  • -seems to be the only person who doesn't think Touhou music is all that spectacular-
  • I wouldn't say it's spectacular so much as catchy and fun. The animations are also entertaining.

I don't like Homestuck due to ugly characters that are all the same.
  • But you never had any to begin with.

I'LL STAY MAI HAUNDS...WITH YAU BLAHT
Both of these series suffer from what I call the "fanlump". To an outsider (or even to someone with a passing interest), it looks like a big seething mass of fans that will make fanart of absolutely everything and connect any media to their preferred series. The fact that Homestuck has its own booru does not help.

For reference, I like Homestuck and Touhou, although the latter is pretty much only for the shootan games.

    But... they are.

Anyhow, I'm glad that Touhou exists.

^Homestuck far less so than Touhou.

    Yes.  This.

The "fanlump" isn't just about a huge fandom; it's about a huge fandom that draws upon itself, and its own memeticism and in-jokes.  Evangelion doesn't have this--it's tons of philosophical arguments by this point.  But Touhou and Homestuck have it.

I often wonder what it's like to be Andrew Hussie, going from one day making comics for a small audience, with no real obligation to keep at it, to suddenly having a titanic fanbase that he has to please. I think he's handled it really well, given.

Also I recently discovered that Andrew Hussie/ Ryan North porn exists. Just let that sink in.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
You mean Ryan North of Dinosaur Comics?
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
I'm surprised Randall Munroe hasn't been mentioned.
  • touhou/homestuck have in-jokes?

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Homestuck has all the in-jokes. All of them. Yeah!

I told you, man, I TOLD you about Homestuck in-jokes!

Homestuck has in-jokes. That's really all there is to say on the matter.
  • I thought that was a Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff in-joke.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff is Dave's webcomic in Homestuck, so it's also a Homestuck in-joke.

But the first and third are from Homestuck itself.
  • Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff is a "show within a show" in Homestuck. The Homestuck characters make in-jokes about the work.

Huh. So there are people who know of SBaHJ other than through Homestuck?
  • It doesn't seem unlikely to me that there would be at least one instance of that.

I know of it thanks to Anonus's avatars.

    lol getting pop-culture knowledge second-hand.
  • I know at least one person who read SBaHJ but dislike Homestuck itself.
  • There was something about the stairs, and "shit. let's be santa".

    IT KEEPS HAPPENING.
  • Funnily, I started reading SBaHJ (thanks to the picture on Stylistic Suck) before Homestuck.

I eventually lost track of Homestuck and quit reading. I think I should try again.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
You should. It gets awesome if you're willing to put in the effort.

    a little muffled
I want to want to read Homestuck, but after seeing the billionth troll avatar I just lost all interest. Which is a shame, because all evidence suggests that I'd probably have liked it.

    Touhou does not exist.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
The Trolls don't even show up much until act 5. Don't let Hype Backlash ruin it for you.
