All the rage ove.r Bayonetta 2 being a Wii U exclusive

edited 2012-09-17 01:27:43 in General

Seriously?

People have been complaining about the lack of third-party exclusives on the Wii, and now they're complaining about the Wii U actually having them? How the fuck does that work?

Having never owned an HD console myself, I can hardly say I'm sympathetic. You're upset because you won't be able to play Bayonetta 2 on your console? Bitch, I haven't been able to play 90% of the AAA titles released in the past 6 years, its about time Robin Hood took away your toys and gave them to us.

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

While there are legitimate reasons for and against the decision to put Bayonetta on the WiiU, I don't think a sense of revenge because of not being able to play AAA titles is one of them (Get an AAA console instead next time?).

If people are really such big fans of Bayonetta they really shouldn't be worrying about what console it's on, they should be very happy that it exists and that they can play it.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

the decision to put Bayonetta on the WiiU

There was no decision. Nobody but Nintendo was willing to publish it.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

Are you serious? Because if so. Damn that's something I'd consider unbelievable, as it is, video games tend to focus on action girl fetishism a lot.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

The first game's 2 million sales were apparently horribly disappointing, though I'm not quite sure how that works unless it was really expensive to make.

    Oh, sorry, forgot.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

^^Considering budget issues it had I doubt it. I just think gaming companies think market assure a top-seller every time, regardless of how niche a game is.

Did anybody else find it weird how when the first Bayonetta came out everyone was quick to say they didn't find her sexy?

  • Yeah, I mean for a game whose key gameplay mechanic was sex appeal that kinda fell flat for me  :|

  • They're somethin' else.

MFW Sony and Microsoft scramble to bring Bayonetta 2 back to their consoles.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

Personally, I found Bayonetta herself plenty sexy. I just think it's because the character presented it so differently that threw people off.

Any character whose best description is "quasi-dominatrix witch who uses her enchanted hair as clothing AND for attacks" is probably sure to put some people off.

  • You can change. You can.

    >quasi

  • My arms are falling off!

Now we have people bitching that Bayonetta 2 is on a Nintendo console, because "hurr durr neentendoh is for leetal kids" App

Um let me tell you about MadWorld (which, by the way, is by the same studio behind Bayo2) and SMT: Strange Journey. Those are Nintendo platform exclusives that are definitely not for kids. Plus Nintendo's been making efforts to appeal to a wider audience--I'd rather that Nintendo lets some M-rated titles on their platforms and keeps themselves float than remain kids-only and die out in the console race.

  • Don't forget Eternal Darkness.

  • But you never had any to begin with.
Also the No More Heroes games. (Although I believe the first did eventually get a port?)
  • We Played Some Open Chords and Rejoiced, For the Earth Had Circled the Sun Yet Another Year

all of these games sold like shit tho

  • As did Anarchy Reigns, the last Platinum game for PS3/360.

  • But you never had any to begin with.

NMH had 400k or so sales when it was released, which is pretty damn good for a barely advertised game.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

The problem is that people think Nintendo systems don't have serious games, so if a serious game comes out for a Nintendo system, people don't buy it because it can't possibly exist.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

I think it was that self-fulfilling prophecy that ended up killing the Wii in terms of third-party "hardcore" games. Mind you, the Wii still had some excellent examples of that.

So the Wii's biggest issue was essentially the hardcore gamer consumer base and their discrimination towards casual consumers and those to cater to them. Remember, the Wii helped make casual gaming an actual thing alongside mobile games, so it's not surprising that the anti-casual reaction that's dying down now was at its peak sometime after the Wii's release.

Mind you, the Wii still had some excellent examples of that.

even so, though, the majority of that came in the form of games from rather niche genres, didn't they?

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

Sort of, I guess? The Wii certainly had some hidden gems, and I suppose many of them were niche genres. But with the rise of indie gaming and the way FPS games are slowly falling from grace, I'm not sure what counts as "niche" any longer. If only because I wouldn't want to make assumptions given the diversity of games that exist right now.

  • Did anybody else find it weird how when the first Bayonetta came out everyone was quick to say they didn't find her sexy?

    I did not know this

and I find it weird too (because of the nature of the game, at least from what I heard about it anyway)

2 million sales were apparently horribly disappointing

no matter how high the budget for something is

I find it hard to see how that would be a horribly disappointing number >_>

(as in, why were they expecting a number very much higher to begin with?)

I don't know what the average of modern high-graphics game sales are though so that's just a blind guess really

also are you sure that these people bitching about no exclusives and bitching about exclusives are the same people

(I do personally don't see why exclusives should ever be a good thing, all it means is that certain people won't get them due to not being owners of specific hardware)

  • You can change. You can.

It means people will buy consoles to get exclusives.

This doesn't seem exactly like complicated business.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

Also, they don't have to spend part of the budget on ports.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    Depends on the development costs.

Skyrim had a budget approaching $100,000,000, I believe.

The Old Republic's budget was something along the lines of $190,000,000. Selling only 2,000,000 copies would have been a letdown, as they would not have even got enough money back to cover their expenses unless they got $95 per copy. (Of course, they made it up through subscriptions, and in the end they did sell several million copies, but still.)

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

    >and I find it weird too (because of the nature of the game, at least from what I heard about it anyway)

I think some were genuine. Differing tastes and everything. I think a lot of people were seeking 'NOT SEXIST' cookies.

I think some people were also off-put by how upfront the sexuality is, and how Bayonetta isn't shy or giggly about it like the DoA girls.

A lot of people made fun of Kamiya for his complaints about the Bayonetta hentai but what they didn't get was Kamiya was upset that the hentai was portraying Bayonetta as submissive.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

For what it's worth, I think Bayonetta's hairstyle is kind of off-putting. I know there's a technically attractive woman sitting just underneath that, but I'm reminded far too much of a certain kind of woman for me to look past it. Change that one thing and I'd probably think she's gorgeous.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

Not a fan of the Marge Simpson do?

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

A little too vertical for my tastes. Kind of reminiscent of Vegeta, too.
