All the rage ove.r Bayonetta 2 being a Wii U exclusive

  • It means people will buy consoles to get exclusives.

I meant only for the customers rather than the producers, sorry.

  • Well, a game being a PC/PS3/Wii exclusive does mean that you can be sure that the game you're getting isn't a shitty port, at least.  But that's clearly not what's on most people's mind and it's a dumb reason to say that exclusives are good anyway.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

There's still what I said about them not needing to dedicate large amounts of time and money to ports.

    Ninja'd :/

Yeah, I don't think exclusives are good per se, but I don't think every game should be on every system either.

If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

It's sometimes good for consumers because it's good for developers, as they don't have to devote time, money and effort to developing a port. Thus, they can focus on other things, such as the game itself, or other games- or make games on a smaller budget, which is good for times when the company is having trouble financially.

Yes, that's good for developers and not consumers, but in the end, the effects bleed down into being good for consumers anyway.

Of course, that's only a sometimes thing.

    Dammit, I typed too much.

    Tableflipper

Isn't a port usually done after the design for the main console is done though?

Like, say, a game was designed for the PS3. Then it was modified to work on the Wii. While the Wii version may be inferior, it is still playable, and the PS3 version does not have the shitty port issues. Or something like that.

I suppose that deadlines would change everything about that though.

    ^ Oh.

  • But in that case the Wii version would possibly be worse (even if only slightly) than if it were developed for the Wii from the beginning.

But more importantly, porting the game takes up time and money that could perhaps be better spent on further development of the main game and more importantly, doing actual QA.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

There's also the fact that a PS3 --> Wii port is going to face some serious control difficulties.
