  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Well, I definitely want to talk to meatspace people more, but ever since I left high school... meeting new people is hard...

Yeah.  Fortunately, my best friend goes to the same school as me, so I can somewhat meet new people through him, though of course that still doesn't result in making new friends or anything because I still have a hard time actually talking to people... and such.

  • I wonder... is Oniichan No Koto worth watching?

It's actually pretty funny. The comedic value is similar to the comedic value in MM! Turn your mind off and embrace the ridiculousness. It's also a stealth parody of the incest subgenre.

  • It's also a stealth parody of the incest subgenre.

Aw... I like it better when things aren't stealth parodies of things I like.
Still, I'll probably end up watching it at some point when I'm looking for anime to watch...
  • I want to say that's not the case for me, but so far (as I've said in a different thread) my experience with the magical girl genre is Moetan, Princess Tutu, and Madoka Magica.

Not one of those is actually a proper magical girl show...

So at least in that case I guess that is the case for me.

Most other genres though, I seem to mostly watch/like actual works in the genre.
  • (You know what's funny? This thread was originally meant to be about turn-ons and turn-offs, but it wasn't that until I was greeted with "31 new".)

Though admittedly, there are some sexual tastes/practices I find bizarre/unsavory/objectionable (e.g. real rape, anything involving real children or animals).

That's normal though. I think it'd be hard to find a person who thinks rape, child molestation, and bestiality are all okay...

I never actually thought of Onii-chan as Stealth Parody, but on the other hand it wouldn't surprise me if it is. In any case it is quite funny.

Also, I only read six chapters of the manga. Before this thread, I didn't even know that there is also an anime.
  • I made a lengthy post detailing why it's a stealth parody here.

    That's understandable.

It's people who object to mere fantasies of rape/pedophilia/whatever that piss me off. No one's going to get hurt by someone fantasizing about raping someone.

About Onii-chan no Koto, I can't say that I'm convinced that it's a stealth parody (not to say that it can't be one). Of course, it's in the nature of the trope that it's not clear, so one can't say for sure anyway. It may just as well be simply very comedic (yes, I read the bit about Kiss X Sis, it still doesn't convince me). But it's not that I care much about that anyway.

Actually, I don't even know what to make of stealth parodies. It just seems so senseless to me. Why make a parody when barely anybody notices that it's one? To laugh at all the "idiots" who don't get it? Sometimes it seems that Stealth Parody means nothing more than "over the top". As if anything that's played in a over-the-top way is a parody. Like with Gurren Lagann. And really, every moron who thinks that Strawberry Panic is a stealth parody gives it way too much credit. It's like the claim that Miyuki-chan In Wonderland, which consists only of fanservice and nothing else, is symbolic of repressed lesbian urges.
  • ^ I thought SP! was a stealth parody. It certainly breaks out of the mold of series like Marimite and Aoi Hana and Sasameki Koto.
  • I admit I only recently took the "healthy outlet" mindset to that sort of thing, anyway.
  • Fuck, it's like nobody even likes fanservice. Can't two characters make love without the outcry of "THEYRE PLAYING TO THE FETISHES DAMN THEM TO HELL FOR RUINING THE SERIES"
  • People complain about it because they feel it is pandering to an audience who is only watching for hot cartoon babes.

I don't really care about it, myself.
  • I don't mind Titanic style romance in shows, or naked characters, as long as they are likeable, or they are doing other things.

Let's please make this a discussion about High School of the Dead now.

So the pink haired girl was kind of empty and useless fanservice who came out of nowhere and had a blank personality dump rather than development, and the Nurse, well, empty characterizations all around, was there for the big boobs. The only ones I liked were Saeko Busujima, who was badass and had more going for her in the story than the rest of the girls, and Rei Miyamito, because love interest and spear-stuff. Kohta was funny because he was a fattie with a nailgun, and Takashi is the hotness. Major hotness. Like Sai Akuto hotness.
  • I liked how they handled nudity in Firefly. The episode where Mal was stranded in the desert was all the more amusing because he was naked. The sex scenes in the show didn't feel especially forced or awkward, either.
  • ...isn't forcing a sex scene scenery rape?
  • And how would raping the scenery compare to chewing the scenery?
  • ...I don't even know anymore

@Tno a while ago: High School of the Dead had bad fanservice because GIANT BOOBS EVERYWHERE

While it's quite odd that every female character in Highschool of the Dead has oversized breasts, I didn't actually care about that. At least it didn't distract me from everything else. Umineko is not much better in that regard and it doesn't bother me there either.

That reminds me that I have only read the first volume of HotD so far. Which is quite strange considering I have the second lying around here...
  • Is it weird that I think a default breast size is a C? and anything under that is small boobs?

Normally they have to be beyond 36D for me to think they are big. Which is why the only one I ever noticed having annoyingly huge boobs was the Nurse chick and Pink Hair.

But yeah, Umineko had a lot of weird fetishy things. Bunny girls, curly hair, skirts with stockings, uncanny sizeable breasts everywhere. It was starting to get weird on me for awhile then Ronolove came by and I went Im okay with this.
  • "Normally they have to be beyond 36D for me to think they are big."

This is a sign that you've been watching too much anime.
