    I have a handful of PSP games that I want to play, but I don't think it's actually worth buying a PSP for them. Unless I can get it really cheap (like under $40).

    I think this applies to most systems.  We want the system because it has some games we want.

    At least, that's for me.  I don't buy systems just to have current-gen systems or to have media players.  I buy systems because they have games I want.

    ...which pretty much necessitates my getting systems several years late.

    Uh, actually, more games than ever are being localized.  I am honestly surprised at how many games companies like Altus are willing to localize.  I would have thought a good many of them--such as Riviera: the Promised Land--would be pretty niche, and not get localizations.

    It's just that you're being more aware of all those games that don't get localized.

    ^^I believe you, but what makes me notice it is companies not releasing games that are part of a larger series. Like Nintendo not localizing Fire Emblem 12, Sega not localizing Valkyria Chronicles 3, Square Enix being unsure about localizing Final Fantasy Type-0, and Namco nor localizing half of the Tales games.

    They didn't localize the majority of the older Fire Emblem games either, so that's obviously not just a recent thing.

    Perhaps they started localizing it and based on sales, decided that was a mistake.

    Indeed, Fire Emblem had a huge boom of interest after Melee but that died down by the time Radiant Dawn came around.

    There were still FE characters in Brawl...although I wouldn't be surprised if Radiant Dawn didn't sell well because it seemed to do it's best to keep the fact that Ike was in it a secret, I'd be surprised if Shadow Dragon didn't sell well, just because it's finally an FE game with Marth. Except maybe if Nintendo had done some thinking and put Marth on the cover instead of what an ugly brown old map, it would have been more successful.

    ...Actually, I first rented Path of Radiance because I thought Ike was a very weird-looking Marth on the cover.

    Fire Emblem is quite popular in Japan though. I read somewhere that it's even more popular than Metroid (though maybe is just that Metroid isn't popular at all over there)
