  • I never understood the "complaining about stuff" genre, myself...
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Yahtzee can pick and choose the things he wants to review

Not really, he can't. If he wants to keep his job, he has to stay relevant and topical. There's a reason lots of film reviewers went to see Transformers 2 instead of writing a dissertation on Casablanca or whatever.

  • He has to do one game a week, and at least most of them have to be big-name games. You can do that and avoid reviewing JRPGs, Wii games that aren't the next big Zelda or Mario game, and RTSes, easy.

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
And I'm sure his viewers and employers would be so happy with that completely professional move.

He can't ignore the most anticipated game. It's needed for him to review Mario, Zelda, and Final Fantasy.

He doesn't even hate Mario or Zelda. His reviews of Zelda and Galaxy 2 had him saying both were fun.
  • I'm not sure if the "professional" part is sarcastic or not...
  • You can change. You can.
    It's sarcasm.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT

  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
Yahtzee's lost his teeth, a lot of his newer reviews are unusually positive.
  • ^ Well, that was an interesting mental image.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
there's only so much bile one can come up with.
  • ^ Not really, let's be honest here.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
    expand on that thought.

I find it funny that whenever 'Yahtzee sucks now' discussions come up there are two camps: Those who think he's just too spiteful now and those who think he's too nice.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Personally, I think he needs to be spiteful to have any humor value (and by extension, any value at all), but he's been too strawgraspy lately.
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
Well, the former camp is right because its the one I'm in.

And I mean seriously, he shows a picture of Mario 64 while talking about how "dated" N64 graphics look... and then the screen he shows doesn't even look that bad.

I think he's funny, but I wish people would not give his words so much weight. It's strange to think people feel more vehemently about what he says than what other people would.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
I think he makes valid points, but I don't hang onto his every word as though it's gospel.

His book is actually pretty funny too.

It doesn't look bad, but it still looks dated and out of place with the current gen. Which is, you know, his point.

OoT and Mario 64 look like cardboard to me. =/
  • You can change. You can.
    Good cardboard, I'm sure. :p

Eh, I don't think they look bad for their time and they manage to convey the info they need to convey, so they work for me.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
They've both had rereleases with better graphics.

^^OoT is my favorite game ever, trust me. I'm just saying they look a lot more like an eyesore than they did when I was twelve.

They're somewhat stylized so they've still aged better than a lot of PSX games.
  • edited 2011-07-30 00:31:43
But there are also PSX games whose graphics have aged better than Ocarina of Time's.  And more importantly, I'm not really sure why the opposite of "Stylized" is "Playstation"...
  • A lot of PSX titles looked like shit. A lot of N64 ones look surprsingly good.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
^^It's not. PSX had a lot of 'gritty realistic' titles though, whereas the N64 tended to have cartoonier titles.

That said, of the era Symphony of The Night's graphics have aged the best.
