and all I can think of is ^Me too or "Ditto". Surely there is something I can say?

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    ^Me too.
  • Holy hell, I feel the exact same way!
  • The sad thing is that I don't have anything to add to this thread except "Me Too."
  • I think it's called preaching to the choir.

Without a discussion with 2 sides, it becomes a Me too topic and dies.
  • This is why I prefer investigating things I like when I find someone with similar opinions to my own, and sharing the new knowledge with them.  Or talking about how our opinions subvert each other.

Do they subvert each other BRUTALLY?
  • Sometimes, depending on the subject.  As a general rule, the conversation will be better the more the two opinions subvert each other, as long as things don't degenerate into arguing.  You never know what you might learn that way.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    -twitches at hearing that phrase-
  • The more you know, INUH. The more you know.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I just meant the "BRUTALLY subverted" bit.
  • Well we all know Warhammer 40k doesn't have a single trope it plays straight, and also isn't able to do anything without it being absolutely BRUTAL.
  • If you didn't cry while reading "BRUTALLY subverted" you have no soul.
  • edited 2011-02-10 18:25:02
Though, if you did, that would be a BRUTAL subversion in itself.
  • On that note, what is with tropers' juvenile love of EXAGGERATION FOR X-TREME EMOTIONAL EFFECTS (and on that note, I love hypocrisy)?
  • I hate subjective tropes.

    I hate tropes.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^^Because fans and anti-fans like gushing and complaining.
  • Complete Monster is a shit trope. Everyone thinks everything is irredeemable, and every other asshole thinks "your milij may very" because they don't think ANYTHING is bad or evil.
  • edited 2011-02-10 18:41:08
That seems to be true of, like, every single trope on the site.

Which is kind of why I don't like the wiki at all.

    Well that and other reasons.
  • Yeah, the wiki really isn't that great. The times it amuses me are few and far between.
  • Because they cut the Lolicon Troper Tales?

    Because of sage?

    Because of DFE?
  • DFE? Sage?
  • edited 2011-02-10 18:47:26
    There were Lolicon Troper Tales?

    sage?

    DFE?

But anyway no the other reasons I don't like the wiki are mostly that it seems to serve no purpose except mindless fan gushing and hater hating.  And that it discourages people from actually thinking about the shows they watch and just encourages them to point out HOLY CRAP THAT PLOT DEVICE IS SIMILAR TO ONE USED IN EVERY OTHER SHOW EVER DURR and then completely ignore the actual important things.
  • I don't really feel any character is irreedemable. If the trope was changed to be about the author's intent, I'd be happy.
  • that's why I love deleting entries. Tis fun. Also, I made a post about how to fix complete monster HERE
  • I always wondered that too.  Also, does the page still have that weird disclaimer about how you CAN ABSOLUTELY NEVER add a character you like?  I mean, what was up with that?  Freddy Kruger, for instance, is one of the most well-loved horror villains of all time, but I'm pretty sure he's about as evil as they come.
  • edited 2011-02-10 19:02:25
Oh, wait nevermind.  Forget what I said before.  The real reason I don't like the wiki is because apparently tropes don't actually exist.  At least not in their normal form.  Because everything is actually a deconstruction, which somehow means it doesn't play any tropes straight ever and everything is a subversion (possibly of the BRUTAL variety).
  • So, retards on the wiki make you hate it?

Kind of like how fans ruined Anime for me?
  • Um... I guess?

Though, it's possible to watch anime without dealing with fans, whereas it's completely impossible to read the wiki without dealing with the people who edit the wiki.
