The company they're talking about has kind of a record of rent-seeking.
A follow-up. They apparently retracted it, but it feels very much "sorry we got caught".
Other examples include trying to extract royalties for the works of uncontracted indie musicians who are on the record explicitly putting their works into the public domain, and takedowns for NASA footage that is also explicitly on the record as public domain.
Exactly. Actually, that's the term for these fuckers. Copyright trolls and patent trolls.
