I remember reading somewhere that the Frisian dialect is the most similar to English of any of the various Germanic languages/dialects, for what that's worth.
On-topic, it's so common to hear people whose first language isn't English speak with an American accent nowadays that I'm not sure I would have noticed. I assume that the US is now the main source of teaching materials/teachers. Not that this stops the message of the advert sucking any less.
