For example, I often see the term Pokephilia for when people REALLY like Mudkips
I'm pretty sure that that's abusing the suffix

I'm rather sure you can tell in context whether it's meant as a formal term or not. It's not really abusing the suffix if the term is made understood.
Maybe these people have suffixphilia.
