Ground Control to Major Tom
Comments
Not one damn link to this song
F- for everyone.
I thought about the Bowie song and the troper simeltaneously. I decided it was more likely to be about the song because we're not generally in the business of attacking tropers here.
Though someone did write an excellent parody of the song poking fun at the troper.
> who is David Bowie

I actually didn't think of the troper at all until someone mentioned him.
Same here.
suddenly, i have the urge to Mumu and just upload David Bowie songs allllllll daaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
or niiiiiiiiiiiiiight
The only reason I think of the troper in equal measure with the song is from being at Beyond The Lampshade, where he was one of prime targets before we stopped targeting individual tropers. Otherwise I probably would have thought of the song first.
It's a bit unfortunate that some people hadn't heard of Bowie, but basically we're all good people here so I don't mind. Because my amazing best friend hasn't heard of a lot of pop culture stuff, I've since become very tolerant and never assume anyone's heard of anything by default.
[insert caustic remark of your own preference here]
Pfft. Yeah, if someone is all-around stupid and also bigoted and obnoxious AND hasn't heard of a musician/director/author/whatever, then I'd dislike them. If someone is nice and otherwise perfectly normal but just hasn't heard of some stuff, they probably just have narrow focus in the way they approach the world. Some people basically have to have stuff shoved in their face to have heard of it, but are quite passionate about what they do know. And have often heard of great obscure stuff most others haven't.
For some reason, I just started singing the phrase "ground control to Major Tom" repeatedly to the tune of the vegetable juice meme.
At my age I should be in training for getting really annoyed at people not having heard of old pop stars, but to be honest I can't get that outraged at most people born after 1990 who haven't heard of Bowie. His prime period ended in the early 80s, after all. The exception would probably be anyone who claimed to be a big music nerd - you have to know your rock history for that.
Unfortunately, the memory of the troper has rather polluted the song for me. As well as any sentence involving the words "the cutest."
I'm surprised that Bowie's forgotten.
But I did immediately think of the troper, as we've changed the lyrics around to fit him.
My first thought was "god dammit, this is gonna be about the troper instead of the awesome song."
Then I was glad to see I was wrong.
But still disappointed to see that people started talking about the TVT idiot anyway.
What can I say, he ruins all that he touches.
Eh, there was a time when I almost lashed at a girl for having never heard of Bowie.
^^ You missed a lot, then. He has some pretty horrible ideas, being a very strong nationalist and quite possibly a pedo.
I've never heard of his antics, what has he done?
Probably best to ask in PMs.
Don't want to really import/export drama.
Let's go back to Bowie for the time being then.
I'm fine with that.
Bowie's funny in that you don't have to be gay to find him attractive.
