Just about all of the controversy regarding the Academy Awards would vanish if people cared about awards that aren't Best Picture.

I think Juan has a point about the value of the Academy Awards, but at this point it's too systemically broken by appealing to formula, political reacharounds, and plain ol' genre elitism. The fact that a condescending piece of trash like The Help is on the table because it gives upper middle class people the warm fuzzies and let's them deny their ancestors' contributions to racism is just an example of that. I mean, I'm still more for the Oscars than the People's Fucking Choice Awards but still. Shit in that biz is fucked up yo.
