My friends want me to write a screenplay of their art group in a parody of The Office/ Parks n Rec
The problem is, I've never actually watched the shows. If anything, all I'm familiar with is the filming and editing style (faux reality show, fly on the wall, and confessional cams, shots linger on reactions than on shenanigans).
I feel I should remedy this.
At least this is better than the time they wanted to parody Seinfeld. Holy shit did that project go south.

Like, a satire or a pastiche? In other words, are you making fun of those shows or just imitating them?
More like an "In the style of" sorta thing. Make a show about them, in the style of Parks N Rec or The Office.
Well, I think you've more or less got it. Just make sure to emphasize dramatic irony and social awkwardness.
