Should I have Toshiba or a non warranty approved place fix my laptop screen?

No rainbow star
The crack is my fault so the screen won't be under warranty anyways (not to mention that apparently you have to activate the warranty - not sure if they'd even let me do that now (what company doesn't have the warranty already active? O.o))

If I bring it into a local computer shop, it will take less than a day minimum and five days maximum, but then the whole laptop would no longer be under (unactivated) warranty

My dad sells servers and such to companies for a living however and is saying having anyone but a warranty approved place repair it is stupid
