Misuse of humanities / social science discipline labels

Applying the terms "philosophical", "psychological", etc. to your favourite TV show or book or whatever does not automatically make it look smart. More likely, it shows you've never actually taken a humanities course in your life.

The thing I truly don't understand is that very few people would consider Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, etc. "scientific", because really, nearly everyone knows the "science" is just window dressing. So why is something like Neon Genesis Evangelion considered "philosophical" on a more frequent basis?

Maybe because the last episode is basically one long dialectic about existentialism? I'd say that'd be similar to Star Wars devoting a half hour to explaining the technical workings of the lightsabers and the hyper drives.

TBH, I can't think of any work that doesn't involve philosophy in some way.
