The Bullingdon Club

edited 2011-12-18 20:12:55 in General
I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
Basically a club at Oxford university that is super exclusive.
Only the very rich are invited to join.

It is meant to be a dining club however it has a reputation for the members to actually trash the places they eat at and then just pay their way out of it.
Andrew Gimson, biographer of Boris Johnson, reported about the club in the 1980s: "I don't think an evening would have ended without a restaurant being trashed and being paid for in full, very often in cash.

Well at least they aren't gonna be in positions of power with background like that...
[It] most notably included David Cameron (UK Prime Minister), George Osborne (UK Chancellor of the Exchequer) and Boris Johnson (Mayor of London).

Also worth noting is that the general opinion from Cameron and friends was that the destruction of property during the London riots was due to just common criminality.

As I mentioned in an earlier thread, these are the nearest thing to the stereotype of frat-boys you'll find in the UK.

The hypocrisy, elitism and abuse of privilege is depressing, but, well, that's Tories for you. It's also fair to say that this attitude wasn't typical of most Oxford/Cambridge students I met when I studied at the latter, even the ex-public school, although there was a fair amount of drunkenness and general dicking about.

Yeah every University has drunkenness and dicking about but the Bullingdon club are just something special.
