Citing one's own (hypothetical) story

It's egotistic, self-aggrandizing as hell, difficult if not impossible to verify, shows an utter lack of creativity in forming arguments, in other words, it's bad and you should feel bad if you do this.

If you're trying to argue a point about media in general, why should anyone care about your online manuscript that no one's read, especially if said manuscript is entirely in your head? If you can't come up with a point or counterpoint that many people have actually seen, then your argument is severely lacking. And virtually everyone who brings up their own story as a point of "bucking the trend" automatically assumes that their idea is brilliant and not at all awkward, pretentious, poorly executed, etc.

I will give concession if the argument is along the lines of "If I did it" or "Here's how I would fix it" and the person is willing to accept critique of said idea (you know, since it is a debate after all).
