People have kind of forgotten about Bush

I never see him mentioned anywhere in tandem to the US economic situation, even though his policies are probably half the reason we're in this jam to begin with.

It's always the current president's fault.

    Always.

So, uh, how much of our current situation is actually Obama's fault? Out of curiosity. To hear my parents tell it, it's his fault the Democrats lost their supermajority in Congress, and it's mostly his fault we're in our current jam. Then again, to hear my parents tell it, he's a Communist, so . . . Point being, I get the impression that he's actually tried to do a lot of good and been continually shut down by a crippled Congress.

In any case, I agree with funny and Malk.
  • How crappy is the US education system that such a myth is so widespread? Then again, lcalasari has mentioned that his dad thinks this way too, so....

I go back to an old statement. Obama is not a brown-skinned anti-war socialist.

    You're thinking of Jesus.

Obama is partly responsible for Dems losing their House majority, but only in a very minor way.  The blame for that is mostly on Dem leadership in both houses of Congress for not pushing through the healthcare bill sooner and getting it over and done with so that they could get other things done and not look like they were taking freaking forever to get stuff done.

That, and when dealing with incorrigible ideologues like the Republicans were, you need a better strategy than "attempt to negotiate, let negotiations fail as expected, then get it done anyway".
  • @Malk: Jesus wasn't anti-war...
  • Jesus recognized that typically speaking, winning a war was better than the alternative.
  • It's kind of not possible whatsoever for Obama to have any fault in the current economic situation. Anyone who says otherwise must think economies go sour overnight.

^ I think my father has said that the economy's current state is Obama's fault due to the handouts to companies

He also thought Bush was a good president (although he admits Bush is gullible and had an evil son of a bitch advisor in Dick Cheney)
  • Our current economic problems are largely caused by naive ideologies about business that have been in place for decades.  Bush still going along with them didn't help things, but it was a track we'd been going down for a long time.

Also I think my favorite memory of the Bush era was when one of the campus hippies blamed him for Katrina.

Not poor management of the disaster aid.

    The hurricane itself.

My favourite memory were all the jokes at his expense :D
  • My favorite memory was when he exploded for no reason.
